Yeah, let's make forge guns balanced to a vehicle that is able to utilize cover and has 2-3x the health of a dropship. Let's just forget about those poor bastards in the sky, because they don't matter.
This guy said ^ in my AV thread https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=103282&find=unread sadly i dont use dropships, cant speak up and represent them. If i could i would but i dont want to do them wrong. DS pilots get off your ass and talk about stuff. Its right there |

DS never got the health buff
They also generally get raped in the sky, get no WP for spawning in the CRU and to kill anything with gunner you have to hover while a FG/rail tank gets ready to **** you
Anything that hits you knocks you around in the sky and causes you to roll about and you either reach for the sky and survive or hit the ground
I think they need a proper workaround tbh |

They need a game mode with far fewer objectives and a significantly greater focus on them. A lack of something to focus a tactical play on is the main reason why Dropships have no relevance besides dropping DUs on roofs. |

I was a dedicated dropship pilot before the last respec, and it was a nightmare. Not because I don't enjoy flying, that's why I did it in the first place (and to be logistics support in PC).
I get pissed just thinking about it because now I'm locked out of dropships for many months at minimum because I have personal RL issues that caused the stress to be way too much. I don't play games to get angry, and that's what dropships did and continue to do for me

As opposed to DUST Fiend, I have skilled into the ADS with 3M SP or so right now, and I am having a good time.
I Don't see issues with Swarms, I don't see issues with AV nades, I fly Forge are okay, unless it is the Proto assault version Railgun turrets, missile turrets an installation can be a pain, but management.
Yep, the worse as a DS pilot is the Forge gun. I am not a Forge hater, I got my proto heavy too.
But we need to keep in mind we have lvl 3 vehicles and modules, and lvl 5 forge, turrets, swarm and whatever.
I think DS should get a health buff, but it wont solve the issue, since we don't want it to be indestructible. I can call an orbital with a 3 men squad (1 gunner and me) in my ADS in some games where I don't get bothered by AV reds.
We need maps with less opened space, a lot more buildings. DS blows when the map is an open field. Just because you can't hide. But it doesn't fix the base issue.
Other than that, they should check the cost of the actual, a lvl3 ADS fitted with proto turrets is 1.2M i$K, ridiculously expensive when you encounter a invisible RDV or a single forge gun on a tower focusing on you.
Fixes to do since a while : CRU WP Gunner turret glitch (aiming too low down bring turret up) Side doors auto-opening/closing annoyance when low altitude Aiming through ADS in 3rd person, no aiming in 1st person without ADS tilting. RDV collision engineering skill=no pg bonus High cost Turrets ranges vs new damage fall off HP buff as the others vehicles LAV reduced survivability And a Forge adjustment. Invisible map patch of terrain in the air, causing direct blow up. (few spots) etc. etc.
I lose a ADS once every 5 games or so right now, mainly to Forge or RDV crashing me when I hover over reddots.

MCRUs are a liability in all but the most organized PC / FW matches, and in those types of matches, proto AV is vast and abundant. Logi ships have more tank no doubt, but they're impossible to miss because of how slow and bulky they are.
Anything the logi ship can do, the ADS can do better. The flight ceiling for ADS ALONE is enough to make it the hands down choice above Logi, but having 4 passengers and the CPU/PG boost to fit an MCRU if needed along with ABs and tank...
1.5 is going to fill me with such mixed feelings of intense happiness and unbridled hatred if they actually pull their ******* heads out of their ass and fix dropships. |

*cry* An angry thread directed at me. *sniffles* I'd like to take this moment to thank the people who have brought me here. First, my older brother, for introducing me to EVE and being a cynical jackass all through my childhood, which made me the way I am. Secondly, I'd like to thank Jason for convincing me to buy a PS3. And Trail of Terror, for giving me an opportunity to jump out at people for 7 hours a night, 4 days a week, for an entire month, in exchange for the $600 with which I bought that PS3 years ago... And Target, for selling it to me. *sniffle* Thank you all so much! |

It is sad how often the plight of dropships is overlooked in the AV debates. What we almost always get is tankers crying but there are 3 sets of vehicles each with their own serious problems that require addressing.
As a half&half scout/AV player who has never liked using vehicles, it is easy to see that the rebalancing that will be taking place for 1.5 will be an absolute nightmare and a complete overhauling. LAVs are too strong; HAVs are vulnerable; dropships are paper planes; and forge snipers in places unreachable by infantry are invincible cannons.
Vehicles currently serve only a maginally niche role and need an entire rethink to figure out what place they are supposed to have in this game and what niches they can fulfill without becoming win buttons. I don't envy CCP Wolfman at all... |

To all those who still enjoy dropships, I both envy and pity you. At some point down the line you will hit a patch where you just get pissed off, and I mean really pissed off, rage quitting dust and ranting on the forums pissed. Every pilot I know of has gone through something like that at least once, I've been through it, and it's a rather crappy experience, I still enjoy flying but my optimism and hope for dropships has taken some major beatings. |

Choose your maps in ambush, you will get some more chances to enjoy them. My enjoyement will vanish as well at one point, but for me, that's the time to try something else. Hell, I rarely use my 12M SP heavy now because it got boring. |

Alright, now a real post. I have 10M SP total, and 7.7M of which is tied up in dropships. 1.6M is unspent, waiting for the pilot suit, and the rest got me into a Gunnlogi because I felt like it at the time. Zero dropsuit skills.
I am absolutely infuriated that the presence of a single railgun tank or forge gunner, if placed correctly, can negate 7.7M of my SP. A tank on the red line of Skim Junction can cover out beyond the outpost, leaving me to do one of three things: Fight on the close objective which never seems to be hot, AFK in the MCC, or die. AFK in the MCC for 500, Trebek!
I've currently got the health to take 2 shots from a well geared forge gunner or railgun HAV, and I'd like enough to take 3. This would increase my survivability to a point where my books would likely roll from red to black, and I'd be able to sustain this life of crime. Currently, I rely on alts and donations from my corp to keep myself flying, and only really play my main for PC battles.
Fixing the red line problem would be very agreeable, because currently I leave maps which have a strong red line position for a tank to sit in. Sometimes, I'll spawn on the north end of Manus Peak and go half a match having fun, and then a red line tank will take position on the south side sniper hill. From then on, it's game over. I sit in the MCC, or if it is early on in the match I will just leave.
I understand needing to pick my fights, but the range on railgun tanks and forge gunners makes me need to pick my battles as well. No player should be entirely useless in a battle because of the presence of one other player. |

That's it - dropships are the scouts of vehicles! |

FG balanced against HAV's and being around ground cover at every turn.

Ha! FG balanced my ass. I need a proto rail turret to match its damage. One guy in a fat suit literally shouldn't have the power, as in power reserves in the suit itself to out damage all but the top level turrets. Let alone let it fly for near instant damage. |

Exactly!!! If it made any sense, that you could have that much power with a guy just running around with his own legs, then you should be able to have that same power in a light turret.
No hand-held weapon should have more, or even equal, damage power, to a turret weapon. Turrets have power supplies the size of an entire dropsuit. More power should equal more damage power.

err, no, you just had suck gunners. Even a mediocre gunner like myself, can hit stuff, if

2. its a multi-shot weapon, rather than a railgun.

The agility nerf on dropships hits pretty hard.
In chromosome Dropships were nearly better off because they could move when you gave the word. Afterburners have been highly nerfed. Back in chromosome it was like watching a frog leap high in the air. You could gracefully and quickly haul ass back to base when forges knew you were about.
Now it's like flying a train car. These things are slow and not immediately responsive. I'd hope for having only two main engines located in the back, that they could at least have the power to go when I yell "Mush!" |
