I was speaking with CCP Merovingian on Twitter recently, and he said that he's been working on some new cool things lately. He couldn't tell me exactly what they were, but he did give me their code names: "Unicorn", "Minotaur", and "Balrog". Any speculations?

I hope these are just code names and not the actual names of any vehicles or suits because anything named "unicorn" is going to get a bad rap. Can you imagine hearing people saying in coms "OMG watch out for the Unicorn? "

I advise you change the name of unicorn to pegasus as it's much less "strange" and obviously fits in with DShip names.

I'm betting Heavy dropsuits.

Unicorn = Caldari

Balrog = Gallente

Minotaur = Minmatar

Could just be blind hope, but it sounds plausible.

My assumptions:

Minotaur - Minnie TAR - Combat rifle?

Or racial heavies, Minnie's are brown much like a Minotaur,...

You just made me want them to name it a unicorn even more.

I'm inclined to guess Caldari/Gallente vehicles... like that AV tank or those bombers. I'm just jaded about new variants or art being introduced I suppose.

Balrog, Unicorn, Minotaur?

Well, the Greek mythology theme is already in-game, look no further than derpships: Gallente - Prometheus, Gorgon, etc. Unicorns are more iffy mythology-wise, and Balrogs are Tolkien.

I can't see them naming a bunch of ships after Tolkien stuff though, for copyright issues. I would think the Amarr would stick with religion-themed names as well.

Unicorns sound most like a speeder, in that they wouldn't carry more than one person comfortably, and the weapons would be minimal. However, the current naming scheme (Viper, etc.) has little to do with the capabilities of the beasts involved.

So, it could be anything, but I doubt it's new racial vehicles... just because I'm used to disappointment there.

I have infiltrated CCP's offices last night and found "Unicorn", a devastating new heavy weapon that makes the forge gun look like a potato cannon.
