I've never been in a game where I'm up against an AR player and thought "I have no chance of ever beating him". If they run full proto and kill me 1 on 1 I understand, and usually don't lose by a lot. They have better gear than me that they worked long towards getting ( I can't say they worked hard considering all the afk'ing), and for that they deserve an advantage.
But I've been up against proto shotguns, MDs and LLAVS and Tanks, who I see and know I have no chance in hell of killing. The shotgunners and tanks don't bother me so much as they have worked hard to develop the right combination of modules along with their weapon to be what they are, and few players can mimic them.
But MD's and LLAVs often boil down to just 1 thing you need to dominate a game.
I know the rebuttals "you need a counter build" "you need a better squad" yada yada yada
I've played the game for a long time, have multiple builds, and played with multiple very good squadmates who also have multiple builds. And the story stays the same. Never had a game where it was "Man, that AR guy is invincible"

From my admittedly new perspective, any combo of level 5 weapon + good player = very short fight.

The problem is the Basic AR is useful in almost every situation.
CQC, yes. Medium range, yes. Long range, yes.
Only the TAC AR is the other useful variant, but very rarely have I seen it outperform the Basic AR in mid - long range engagements.
Burst and Breach dont even stand a chance.
They need to make the specialised ARs fit their description, and remove the Basic AR if you ask me. |

Yeah, on a 1V 1 situation, I usually get a proto down to a foruth their armor. Though that is only if I lose. I usually win by going for head shots, grenade to the face or my patterned AR/SMG combo. That is with Militia and standard gear. |

No
I have other builds for tanks.
I did actually kill a tank once with my AR. But that was after several AV grenades brought it to flames. It was a ridiculous rare moment which boiled down to luck. |

The ARs problem isn't being OP, it's that it's incredibly dull and undermines weapon diversity. |

I think CCP said this in a dev blog before: While the AR is ineffective in few situations, it is almost never the best weapon for a fight. That doesn't make it overpowered, just popular. |

There is an area of mid-range covering about 20m where it outright is the best weapon but yeah, it's extremely competitive in CQC and short-range but not dominant.

As a heavy my problem with the Assault Rifle
assault rifle does 523 damage per second for 6 seconds straight +pin point accuracy +range
heavy machine gun
533 damage per second 12 seconds slightly less since you will over heat with 51 bullets left at proto level
+clip size
god forbid you want someone 20 feet away
damage drops to 470 per second
overll for using a heavy machine gun and a heavy suit you dont get much benefit compared to an assault suit using an assault rifle |

lol. And what weapon do you use that makes you feel that you hav a fair chance against AR user one on one but not the MD user? |

As a scout I feel the opposite. with MD or LAV I can usually bounce and be gone fast enough. With AR - if they good and they see you, no way you can outrun their bullets. As a scout 1 v 1 dance is usually a dumb idea. |

Really? Because as soon as I see that someone has a Duvolle, I know that I'll die if I don't get the drop on him. Plain and simple. Shotgunners are supposed to OHK but only at close range, which is why you need situational awareness to counter them, and MD's greatest counter is a sniper or, if you can sneak up on them, a superior CQC weapon [like shotguns, if you can work them reliably]. Really good tanks simply require really good AV players working against them. I think a lot of people calling for nerfs and the like just haven't found the proper counter that works for them.
LLAV's, though, are OP. But I believe they have a nerf incoming.
But honestly, I think the biggest problem in this game is tiers. If we went through tiercide and there were no truly superior weapons to anyone else's gun, then we could argue over whether or not something was OP with far more accuracy. Because all proto gear is OP. |

The Burst is my baby. I love that AR. I never used thr TAC so I can't comment on it. The Breach is fine, so use it on my Standard Assault. I like it. It sounds good andI use it with a basic light DMG mod. My Burst I use an Enhanced DMG mod. |
