Collions with the ground or obstacles, especially by dropship, do far too much damage.
Also I've lost way too much ISK, literally millions, because this silly "auto-land" mechanism pulls my DS towards the ground like a magnet, when I fly low. It is doing much more harm than good. A pilot who knows what he is doing does not need this.
In attempt to correct it, I have to jerk the ship back level and then thrust upwards. For whatever reason, I end up getting the edge of the ship "jutted" into the ground. And this happens much more often than it should. And I have been flying these things since the July of last year build. I know how a dropship should ideally function in Dust 514. Anyway, once this happens, the drop ship sort of topples over.
This low impact collision manages to destroy the DS quite often, not to mention seemingly light landings that do excessive amounts of damage to the ship.
What ever the collision damage is at the moment... It needs to be around A QUARTER - or perhaps around a third - of what it is now, in my honest opinion.
the DS is already too nerfed to begin with in these past couple of builds. They are comparably about as soft as a LAV now, which is honestly too much, considering its supposed to act as a flying Armored Personnel Carrier...
Its a "Medium" vehicle and as such, it should be somewhere between the Light and Heavy vehicles...
the STD Gallente DS has less armor than the STD Gallente LAV. That really doesn't quite add up to me.
As of right now, the DS, in reality, is a Lightly Armored Aerial Transport with the seating cap., profile, and speed of a Medium one...
This makes them bad (broken)... |

I ended a game having taken 10 million damage in a tank once. Best I could figure it was collision damage from getting stuck in the valley between two small hills.
As far as dropships go I can do pretty well low to the ground but I tend to lose them when I am blindly fleeing incoming damage as I have no idea where its coming from. Sometimes all I can do is hit the AB and go straight up and feel like an idiot when I smash into the MCC. |

Yeah, when it comes to collision damage the RDV & Dropship situation should be top priority. I've taken anywhere from 100000-300000 damage from a love tap. The things come in cloaked, for goodness sake! I don't think I should be penalized much for a friendly RDV that decides to sniff my rear while I'm firing on enemies. |

Oh yeah, other posters... You're right. This happens as well. It shouldn't happen at all. And CCP should make a mechanic that fixes it.
RDVs should spawn NOWHERE NEAR an aerial vehicle.
Also, if you're in an Aerial vehicle, there should be an audio warning and direction marker for nearby aerial vehicles. And (would be nice if possible) a hologram tube or line on your HUD showing the immediate predicted flight path of other aerial vehicles (I.E. RDVs) so they don't come out of left field and smash into your ride -_- |

It's hard to do a fast landing in a dropship due to impact damage, if you try to come in fast you explode, if you try to come in slow you get shot down, if you try to come in fast and brake at the last second you'll end up floating stupidly about 10m of the ground for 5 seconds or you'll misjudge it and hit the ground and explode. And the sad thing is if that CCP ever fixed that we would just see a return to the dropship squishing era. |
