Recently joined up, had played TF2 for a significant amount of time. I enjoyed playing as heavies, engies, and medics over there and was looking forward to settling into those roles over here. I've really enjoyed playing as logistics, just running around popping down spawn points, ammo, and bringing people back to life.
But two roles I enjoyed before dont seem to have much point. I was, to be honest, brutalized as a heavy. It seemed like I could never find an optimal range. Too far away and the mingun just wasnt accurate. Too close and they would just sidestep and take me out.
As for the the medic role, the armor repairer doesnt seem to have much point. It seems to be focused towards the heavies, who arent the best or towards vehicles.
Do I have the right idea? My current plan is to go full Logi and maybe dropship pilot.
Just wondering if my thinking is straight before I start investing. |

As a Heavy myself, I find that I operate best at mid-to-close range with a HMG while defending a point. Rather than running and gunning like an Assault and getting out-shot by ARs, I can hold a point and act as point-defence.
I use hip-fire more than ADS so I can turn and strafe faster at the sacrifice of accuracy. A cooked Flux or Locus softens/wipes their shields and my HMG finishes them. Even just throwing a grenade can force them to change directions and back off.
Having a Logi for support or some good armour reps help a lot with getting the armour back up between waves. |

Following the nerf of the HMG with Uprising 1.0, there has been a drastic fallout of heavies on the battlefield. You used to find them guarding key map locations such as Clone Reanimation Units (CRUs), or Null Cannon objectives, or just mowing people down and raining terror wherever they walked. (literally, walked lol). Now the heavy roll has really been trumped by other rolls. The HMG isn't anywhere near as powerful as it SHOULD be, and the slow tracking speed of the heavy finds him getting out flanked by light and medium frames all the time. This, on top of the fact that there is only one race of suits for heavies, has turned alot of people away from the roll. (I did hear that Uprising 1.4 is going to introduce new suits...but I heard that on the internet. I met my girlfriend on the internet...she's a french model)
My very first character during chromosome was a heavy, but I abandoned him with the Uprising build. I'm waiting for more heavy content and allowing him to accumulate SP in the meantime.

Basically you learn the maps and ensure you face close fire corridors as often as possible. If you are actually doing guard duty, this is alot easier. If you want to race around the map and do this - its both harder and not really your role.
Also don't hold down the fire - short controlled bursts at a target are better. And keep strafing, even though it's not much it makes their job slightly harder.
Ultimately its also a game of adaption - you get a feel for when enemies are vicious against a medium suit, but at the price of running into heavy and dying. Other times it's not right - they know their heavy elimination routine - so screw up their routine by coming in with something else (preferably throwing alot of flux - that usually bugs whips of a shield or three)
Playing medium for awhile then when the enemy is pressing in, expecting more medium and voila! HEAVY! You can almost see the expressions on their little face textures. |

lol real answer though, yeah, you just have to find the sweet spot. HMG can slaughter guys who get into your optimal ... just takes patience, hugging cover, having someone there to watch your back, and a bit of luck.
Also try the assault forge gun. It will change your life. |

If used right, the Heavy is the cornerstone of your team actually. They are the bullet sponges at choke points and the weaken the enemies. They are actually a support role over just a straight offense role.
Teamplayers does this tactic a lot (Although now they replaced the Heavy with a HAV). I learned from the top Heavies in the game, so when I spec'd into it, I knew the role I had to play, and learned just how vital they are. Sometimes you don't get all the glory, or get 40 kills, but you help your team win when you do your job well. And behind every great Heavy and a great Merc with a repair tool, who even gets less glory, less kills, and less WP, but adds to the squads success and Orbital Strikes. |

When I play solo, I'll sit with a Submachine gun from behind cover and just pepper an enemy. Not doing any real damage to them, they come raging at me with their AR, thats when I switch back to my HMG and as soon as the turn the corner, I blast them, once I get them in my track, that's when I ADS. You'll actually just watch the merc give up and not try to run away, but just take it and die, lol.
I also ADS against other Heavies for sure, that's usually the difference between them dying and not you. |

What the guys said about the heavy being Mandelbrot defense over offense is right.
Also, the MUG is a Minmatar weapon, when we have the Minmatar Heavy it will be a lot more fast. So it should balance it self out at close range.
If you are going to go for Dropships, I would suggest waiting for pilot suits. |
