TL:DR SUMMATION AT BOTTOM Seriously people, why do you feel the need to make post after post and thread after THREAD of nothing but doom and gloom bs? Other than an obvious need for attention, if you really hate the game so much wtf are you still doing here? I am so TIRED of coming on here to see if there is anything noteworthy only to be brought down by a bunch of kittenholes posting about every problem or percieved problem they have with this game only to go on to say that they afk or are goin g to quit (for the 50th time). Let's look at the logic of this: why does one afk? To gain skill points/isk for this game. So why the hate? Why would one be posting for the twelfth time that they are going to quit the game because they hate it so much? The answer is the same for both: because despite everything they say in opposition to this the fact is that on some level they like the game and want to see it succeed, otherwise, unless they are COMPLETE basement-cases they would not still be here.
Here is what you hypocritical haters need to understand: if anything is going to kill people's will here it is going to be YOU above all else. You say the game sucks because no one plays it then you go blog about how much this game sucks somewhere, then you whine some more. YOU are the bad press that this game gets, if you want more features and a better playing experience stop shrieking about how awful the game is every chance you get! And the afk'ers are the worst "oooh, well the playing experience sucks" how do you think we feel when we have half the team circle-jerking it out in the mcc?! And then you have the nerve to come on here and brag about it to the whole forum while still contradicting yourself with every complaint! These people are the real poison in the well and what's worse is they don't even recognize themselves for what they are, half of them think they are doing a SERVICE by making those posts.
TL:DR SUMMATION: If you are still logging into the game in any way chances are you want it to succeed, stop with the doom and gloom. If you have a serious issue it is probably already being addressed and if not post it, with a possible solution, enough with the threads that do nothing constructive and simply list a dozen problems.

Forums are like high school students. Everyone just whines about how much their specific life sucks in a specific special way that no one else understands.
CCPs job is to weed through all the whining and find the genuine concerns.

WarRavens? I like you guys a lot. I have accidentally squad-ed with you a couple of times in the past and those matches have been some of the funnest I've ever played. Ok, you've convinced me. Only happy comments from me from now on (or at least more cleverly subtle negative ones) whenever I post on the forums.

Make a thread explaining CCP's goal for the game. I expect nothing less than one full post (6000 characters). Like this post when you do, so I know you have, I will read it, and if CCP confirms you know their goal for the game, I will give you 10 million ISK when I start playing the game again.
I'm not asking because I wish to challenge your comment for the sake of it. If you truly know what CCP wants from the game, then share it with the damn community. We're flailing about in the dark here. CCP goes on and ON about community feedback and how they treasure it, but how can we provide feedback that we know will be considered if we don't know where CCP want to go with the game?
For starters, what game genre is this? What aspects of FPS/RPG/MMO are we focusing on? What kind of content will we see 5 years down the track? What kind of game modes? What will our impact be on New Eden?
The answers to these questions should be a small part of CCP's whole 'goal' that you claim to know. I doubt even the CPM know.

CCP needs to add a function that allows us to "love" a comment rather than "like"; specifically for this comment here.

I honestly don't think it requires a full post and if I posted that much it would be a redundant waste of my time: the info is already out there. Head over to YouTube and check out the keynotes from the dust 514 conference.( I do apologize because i have been typing fron my iphone so i can't easily link atm. I'll try to remember to come back and edit them in when I get home) If my memory serves me right they are a couple hours long in all. They basically give you a rundown on every essential plan they have for the next couple years and a general feel for the direction they want to head down for the next 5. I retread your pos trying to see something that wasn't addressed in the videos and couldn't come across anything so I think this might be what you are looking for. As for game modes, I believe that was actually at least partially addressed in a rather recent video by CCP, wherein they displayed the models for the drones, new vehicles, dropsuits etc. and discussed a few possible related game modes. |

I have complained about stuff, typically for me its about the AFKers but any and all forums for games get infected by the "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! this gun killed me its OP, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"
The game is not finished yet for gods sake! Yes CCP is making mistakes and yes I am playing less and considering quitting (like i actually did in beta, it took a friend nagging me to bring me back) I want to like DUST, I had some really goood rounds a few days back but so many of the games now there is so much AFKing going on I got to ambush, problem there is I keep running into the world Number one and if that happens its "BPO suit time cos other wise he and his friends will wreck my ISK balance"
On a couple of occasions I have been lucky enough that he is on my team so I follwed at a discreet distance killing what I could while trying to absrob what he does that makes hom so good apart from his full proto suit
games are about fun, but when ppl are not having fun, they will come here and vent in the hope they get their current hated weapon nerfed. |

Cracks Knuckles.
I'll do it two sentences.
First being: The main goal of Dust 514 is to bring the New Eden Universe to veteran shooter and console players through the eyes of an immortal soldier.
The second being: Games should not be defined by the Genre rather the Genre be defined by the Games. |

take a look here you will see strange names like Veteran_something. 653 pages of constructive feedbacks. Like "Make the forge gun less cheap" "smoke grenades" "vote kick" bla bla bla bla.
Now take a look here : 381 pages of bugs. Many solved, yes. But too many unsolved. And, well, it's more than one year now. People here are just waiting for a better game or enjoying what we have with others (but again, the game itself, after a while is not funny at all). |

True. The problem is when almost all veteran shooters and console players left and we have a vast majority of eve players playing a shooter game. |

Don't get me wrong I don't blindly hate CCP or QQ about my sorry life. I am just saying that they made a few big mistakes that they either never tried to fix or at least explain to the community. This created a very bad atmosphere between ppl who play the game adn ppl who make it. Recently CCP has been getting their act together with better communications and PR. So that's good. But I am not surprised we still see so many sour QQ, doom and gloom threads. This kind of culture once put in place takes a long time to go away. |

Please stop trying to feed people vague bullshit like this.

The problem is that all of the things you're talking about sound like Pie-In-The-Sky ramblings of a stoned 14 year old. When the rubber hits the road, only 1 in 100 of the random "dude, it would be soo cool if Dust 514 could..." even seem to be on their SOON(tm) timeline, let alone actually in the game.
They have delivered so little of what they've talked about in all of these blogs, keynotes, interviews, etc that if you watched/read all of that info before booting the game up for the first time (and with no outside knowledge aside from the nonsense the dev team spews) you would surely think you were being "punk'd" and that the real game must be hidden away somewhere else.
At the speed they're working at, it's going to take them 10 years just to get to where Dust 514 vaguely resembles the game they dream out loud about.
If the actual product is this far away from the product they sell us in their infomercials, then it follows that we would be interested to know specifically what their vision of the game is for say, the next few years.
I mean, frankly, most of what they talk about doing is obvious the sorts of things most devs would like to do. It's just most devs understand that most of these things just aren't yet possible, and require a MASSIVE amount of development time and hardware power. Just look at how they went from "1000s of maps and at least 64 vs 64 at launch" down to "ok...5 maps and 16 vs 16."
If they can't give us a realistic idea of what this game is going to look like for the next few years, and instead just continue to blow smoke up our collective asses, then you have to expect the player base to get itchy assholes.

I understand software development is hard. Lots of stuff is hard. No one is forcing CCP to talk big and deliver small, that's on them, not me. If anyone should know how hard software development is, I would think it would be SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS. As such, your argument reads to me like just another strike against CCP, and another check in the "CCP Doesn't know what they are doing" column.

Yet, somehow somewhere back of your mind you know I am right and it does answer every single damn question perfectly.
Is it right to call Mirror's Edge or Portal an FPS? They both have guns, both have enemies, both played through first person perspective and yet, you be somewhat would be very wrong to call either of them a first person shooter. There should never be a magical checkbox list for any game period. It's the whole reason why we have crappy cranked out uninspired games with the least ambitious goals. Games that are widely successful break these lists ALL the time because they somewhat refuse to be shoehorned into a tiny little box. Halo, Half Life, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield, Call of Duty each in their own right when they first hit the shelves broke FPS definitions at the time offered something that previously did not exist on the checklist before. Similar to why upcoming games that seem most exciting are trying to break that box once again like Titan Fall because none of these games started out with the goal of 'let's make an awesome FIrst Person Shooter. Imagine if Team Fortress 2 did set out with that goal you would have wound up with this crap http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/1/15908/1202824-tf2_oldstyle.jpg
No most of these games started out with 'Lets share a story, or an experience' are generally the best ones. Halo was an RTS, Call of Duty didn't have RPG elements, Battlefield 4 is bringing in stronger RTS elements. Dust 514 was supposed to be a planetary interaction expansion where Eve pilots build and commanded hoards of NPC troops and they sent them against other Eve players. |

But they are doing it! I think we all just need to have patience and enjoy the game, if you don't enjoy it then see above for where the door is, as they've said and therefore you know, it's a long term goal but at the same time they're doing quick fixes and monthly iterative updates so how can you possibly criticize them??! Maybe you think there are 800 clones working on the game when realistically it's probably closer to 5 - 10 people working on the Dust side of things at any one time. Just out of curiosity... how much did you say you paid for your copy of Dust? |

You seem to have misunderstood. He asked other questions apart from the genre of the game. He asked about long term goals, game modes planned etc. and all you gave was two vague sentences that just aren't good enough.
I know that I shouldn't expect you to know everything about what CCP plans on doing, but the other guy was acting like he knew everything that was going to happen and yet when he was asked he said "I can't be bothered go watch the stuff that CCP made last year" |

Cost is irrelevant to whether or not the game is fun. If it isn't fun, people don't play. If no one plays, the game dies. It's as simple as that. Saying "well it's free, so it's okay if it's ****" is a cop out and sidesteps the problems being discussed.
Again, they have fallen so short of delivering the things they "promised" that there's absolutely no reason to believe a word they say about what they are and aren't developing because at least 9 out of 10 things they say they will do never materializes.
It's going to take more than a couple of small beta-style updates fixing basic gameplay in a "commercially launched" title to change the perception of CCP that they have cultivated over the last two years of failing to manage expectations.

These forums reflect the balance and fun factor of the current client.
Dust has a terrible forum community because the game is in dissarae, and the fanbois believe what they say actually benefits the game, and it does NOT. CCP has there own idea of what they want to do with dust. This is not what the community wanted, but it is what we got. A boring lobby shooter.
So all the negativity is just the state of the game, sorry fanbois your game has devolved into garbage. |
