Maybe he's just like me/us. Let me explain: you do a great game. You do own with your 200k proto but someone on a lag, a forge gun, a group of 20 players kills you. You go 50-1. That's a great score isn't it. But when you do you gain an average of 250k isk. Your profit is "just" 50k isk and something like 1500 sp more than usual.
Now on the same match you afk. You don't die. You don't kill. But you still gain and profit more or less 150k isk. moreover you gain SP.
Now, tell me, what will you do, if you like the game, you know it has potential, but it's still a bit broken?

I never said in the OP that I was against it, nor do I deny doing it. Heck, I'm AFKing right now in the Oceania server. It still feels dirty, I'll admit, but this game is too much of a damn grind. I AFK on my main, then I actually go play the game on my alt, because I am honestly tired of using the AR and calogi suit. AFKing gives me a chance to keep up in points with my main, while I go test out new weapons and suits on my alt.

I was sort of thinking that's maybe what happened, but when I spawned in there was at least 8 or 9 in the MCC just standing there. Also 7 of the players on the other team were active (although low amount of kills since there was nobody to kill). Plus after doing several more matches AFK, I am seeing the same players. So was definitely a big group of AFkers that happened to be placed in the same match.

The entire team rosters didn't fill until the end. I was only running on the American server because in the past soon as the game started glitching a quick check of the player roster and it was packed with foreign corp names. Not sure what CCP has been up to but Oceania ran very smoothly.

I would play it? I can't understand why you guys are afk'ing, surely it's a huge pain to have to keep finding a battle every fifteen minutes?

They changed the way the award in this event works to benefit more active play..... but they did it sort of half-assed. Half an ass is useful to no one. Normal SP gain is 5sp per sec for doing nothing and 1sp per WP. They doubled the latter value. The problem is WP to SP should probably already garner larger rewards. In my experience: 1 Skirmish AFK: 4k SP, 1 Skirmish Actually playing: 5.5k SP (about 800 SP in that particularly match). So, even with a 2x bonus, AFK is still hugely rewarding. Playing gave you more SP per match before this, and that's still the case. However, AFK is still very efficient. If you can get 1500+ WP a match, hey... that's great SP gain, but as anyone that looks at scoreboard can tell you - that's a fraction of the average players. AFK still makes great efficiency sense for most players. You can eat, cook, play Shadowrun/Civilization/EVE/Dragon's Dogma/Animal Crossing, watch TV, read a book, do work you get paid for, or whatever... all while collecting SP at a rate that is more or less on par with people that actually play. If you're burned out on the game, the same old modes, waiting for new content, waiting for fixes, but aren't ready to give up on the game... hey, AFK provides you with a way to keep while doing other things. So, yeah.. a 2x modifier on the conversion rate of WP to SP doesn't come close to addressing the issue.

It's a game mechanic that allows you gain sp and isk even if you're doing nothing, maybe because ccp wanted to reward ppl unable to be useful for their squad, who knows. ccp is well aware of the problem since closed beta. They changed SP systems many times, but still afk is "permitted" somehow. But, please, understand that I myself posted a solution, even in closed beta i posted that same solution that would solve afking. Still nobody gives a damn. Either players and ccp.
