I dunno how effective they are, if at all.
I kinda want to spec into them to run a ninja heavy, but if they're not worth it I'll save my SP for biotics for speed heavy. |

mostly because built in suit scanning is broken...
they wont ever help you unlesss your trying to avoid being scanned by those active scanners nobody uses |

I dunno about that one. I run the basic Kin Cat with shield stuff and do pretty well defending urban objectives. Not Pubstomp well, but I'm not horrible, unless I'm being protostomped.
But being a little bit faster, at least in being able to run a bit faster somehow works for me when I'm defending multiple objectives.
I've only skilled into the core armor and shield so far and to level 3 for armor reps... I have 3 mil sp so I'm relatively new to the game. So I really don't lose anything by not having plates or extenders. |

They were useful back in the day when a suit's scan radius was a reasonable distance. But now it's so short it's completely worthless and everything relating to it is a waste of time. |

It's useful if you'll be flanking a lot, you'll want at least one equipped because you will be in the enemies scan range. You many want to upgrade to at least advanced. I've been running into more and more scanners lately, and with one Dampner equipped- I still got scanned! Though I only used one basic. |

Definitely saved me from making a very regrettable decision. But all of the scan modules are borked? Even the range enhancer? |

Even the range enhancer? Yup. The range of the suits is so crappy you're only taking about a meter or two extra. Don't remember the exact numbers but there's no point at all in using them. It's not the modules that are the problem it's the incredibly low base amounts. |

my opinion, do not spec into speed. Bring your base stats like Armor, Shields, CPU, and PG to lvl 5 with your SP. Build the base stats first, this works on all suits in case you decide to try another build. After you have your weapon to lvl 3 efficiency at least and your base stats to 5 then start to branch out. I have all stats to 5 and run a very basic heavy and do just fine. Also placing 4 complex speed mods do not even get you close to an assault with just one. So its no use trying to keep up, up your core skills and gun skills and you will be doing better than trying to keep up with the other builds. Also before you doubt me I have at least 5X the SP you do and have 2 proto suits and 3 proto weapons and all other stats are at lvl 5. But again its just my opinion and I hope I have helped. If you do decide to go speed and it works I am always open to new tips |

Just wanted to jump in here to say that scanning skills are not completely useless. They are typically best used with Logi fits because (a) they have the most fitting options, and (b) they have the second best base scanning skills of all the suits.
The effectiveness of your scan is determined by your precision, measured in a dB (decibel) value, and your own ability to get scanned is determined by your scan profile. So for something like a Logi your profile/precision is 50 db/50 dB while an Assault is 50 dB/55 dB. What this means is that an Assault won't see the Logi suit pop up on his scanner even at 10m but will still see, for example, Heavy's with their 60 dB profile. This provides an inherent bonus as it provides both you and your team with valuable intel about target locations before they spot you.
With that considered, you have to account that your skills as well as your modules play into how effective your scanning is. The base scanner is pretty worthless as it only provides intel on targets up to 10 meters. All the base stats can be made better by increasing the skills. For example, with Precision Enhancement V you get a 10% reduction to precision, so if you take an Assault suit's 55 dB precision, it would be reduced to (55 * 0.9) = 49.5 dB. What this means is that said Assault can now "see" other Logi and Assault suit's who have no profile dampening skills.
In my opinion it really comes down to making sure you see the enemy before or at the same time they see you. Precision Enhancement ensures that you will see them, where as Profile Dampening is more of a dice roll because a Scout will still be able to see you if he's close enough and has scanning skills. The Gallente Scout was really made for being the intel provider, at the Proto level with Range Amplficiation V and a Complex Range Amplifier, the scout will see people up to 32.6 meters constantly. This isn't much in huge open areas, but urban maps will light up for these scouts.
It's just a matter of knowing when to utilize scanning and determining whether you think it provides you enough of an edge to justify the modules. The only time you're really going to see a noticeable difference is when you max out your scanning skills and fit at least one ADV or PRO module. |

I run a minja with knives an although I don't use the mods the skill works well passively guys walk past me as long as I'm not spotted. ComPare the db between scout an ur suit I imagine yours is much higher, but if you go for kinetics it's a huge point sink just to unlock it an they use a lot of pg an CPU , if anything get ur suit to 5 pg an CPU before anything especially with tomorrow starting 2x sp week but if ur already at 5 than giver on the biotics it helps increase things passively just do the math an make sure the modals can fit ur suit if you haven't maxed your core load out |

I'm working on PG/CPU and I've only gone to level 3 in the suit with level 1 sentinel so I'm not necessarily committed to the Amarr version of the suit. But to get to the point, I'm not running speed mods to keep up, I'm running speed mods to be an effective multi-objective defender for those in-city objectives. |

Finish armor upgrades to five for the passive bonus, same with shield upgrades an armor repair( has passive bonus that makes a basic work like a complex an a complex work like two), get one gun to proficiency 3, use a smg militia side arm , an red militia kinetics, dump your sp to either run a advanced suit for mor pg CPU cuz it's cheaper than the 800000 to CPU pg ur suit to 4.
Get all things with passive bonuses to save CPU pg on ur load outs |

Or CPU pg ur suit to save isk from always running advanced suits, it will cost 2.5 million to suit up pg CPU from 3 to 5, but wait on that till you can't fit anymore good stuff on ur suit, that's what I'm doing now but all my stuff is at proto or advanced an I have 4 guns at pro 3, damage is just as key as survival level them equally or play to their advantages, if ur guns weak but ur full of hp then play mid to front line, if ur gun s awesome but ur a glass canon play from range, an ur a heavy so use militia armor reps an finish armor upgrades first an maybe get damage mods to advanced.

They might be worth it post 1.4 since the Tac net will no longer be shared, although unless they do not update the Minimap to include structures might as well remove it since it will be near useless. |

I'm not sure that math is right. I think at least the Range Amplification and Scout bonus would impact the base radius independently. The module I'm not sure about.
It may be more like:
10 (base) + 5 ( 10*50% Range Amp V) + 5 (10*50% Scout Bonus) + 4.5 (10*45% Module) = 24.5
(10 (base) + 5 ( 10*50% Range Amp V) + 5 (10*50% Scout Bonus) ) *1.45 (Module) = 29.
Still a big bonus, but not quite 32.6. Can someone confirm if I have this wrong? Either way, the absolute scan radius is still much less than the effective range of most weapons, rendering it somewhat useless. A decent buff to either the base radius, modifiers, or both, particularly for scouts, is really necessary to make this sort of info-gathering role viable. |

The change is potentially coming in 1.4 or 1.5 to incentivize active scanning, which will be shared with the rest of the squad.

I'm pretty certain that we still share target locations among squad/teammates, but that is going to be changed in 1.4. I need to go reread the specifics, but I think there are some pretty big changes coming to they Tacnet.
And I don't think it would make the scout "useless". The game would come down to having to be much more aware of your surroundings and allow for good communication to be necessary on the battlefield. The Scout would have an advantage over everyone in that he/she sees what's going on and can more readily decide how to engage. The scout's primary roles should be things like hacking undefended objectives, taking out snipers/lone wolfers, and employing hit and runs on enemy positions.
Right now the crappy thing is that map design and splash damage screw a lot of scouts. They need a way of staying undetected to make a jump on someone and then sneak away.
