I don't actually get what you want to accomplish with this post.

Well, I know the Japanese community is generally ignored because of moonrunes, but I think many of them could provide valuable feedback to the game. Others need help.

It's a general call-to-arms to those that want to break down the language barrier and/or help out with moonrune users.

The thing is: What you posted (the translated twitter posts) is basically the same feedback we get from non-japanese players.

Just install the corresponding languagepack.

A while back I made a post saying that I was going to Rosetta Stone to learn some more Japanese to be able to help out Japanese players. Well I suck at this because life throws fastballs and occasionally the pitcher decides to change targets and aim at the batter. (Super-summarized life story finished and moving on.)

Anyways, while looking at TweetDeck, I noticed a couple of tweets for Dust 514 were Japanese. Here's a couple:

Terrible lag? That's some feedback. Not sure of what to do? Rookie training grounds and maybe DS10 could show you the ropes. Some are still not sure of it, others are interested in it.

And so: LANGUAGE BARRIER.

Now that I've pointed out the problem, I'd like to become part of the solution.

Yes, I understand that there is some things wrong with the game still and it's not up to par with the feeling many of use had back in Fanfest 2009 when Dust was in prototype stage shown off with the Carbon engine, or that feeling we had watching a capital ship bombard a planet for the first time in Fanfest 2012. No, I'm not saying all of us should sit down and learn Japanese either. But there is a language barrier that is separating players in a very unique game. And I'd like to take a step to tear that barrier down.

I remember one match specifically out of all the battles I've had in Dust. I was apart of the squad, representing America on the east coast, another squad mate was from the west coast of the US, another from South America, another from Europe, another from Japan, and another from Australia. Yeah, there was lag, but it was definitely a pretty cool feeling knowing that your squad is from different corners of the world.

In any case, I'll do my best to help out as I am part Japanese myself (and I love Japanese culture, food, anime, blah blah blah) but I post in hopes that some of you out there want to help me in overcoming this language barrier.

Yeah, that. I can read moonrunes fine on my PC, it's just that when, for example, I land on the Asia server, and squad up, all I see in the chatbox are squares. (Not that I know anything out of English and Spanish, but at least I could try.) Now, I know the PS3 has encoding options, but I really don't feel like experimenting for fear that everything comes out weird.

I went to community college and learned Japanese (courses in JPN101, JPN102, and JPN115 which was conversational Japanese).

I cheated and used Google translate for the translated tweets above, but I know my way around hiragana and katakana but only know a couple of kanji like S¦¦ (jin [person]) and F¬¦ (hana [speak]) and S+ò (nani [what]). (Kanji typed by me using IME)

However, my level of knowing Japanese is that compared to that of a first or second grader. I know it but I'm not fluent. Yet.


EDIT: And the topic I typed out myself. Which I know realize I have just typed out "I speak Japanese" and then added a question mark. Doh! >.<

TL;DR

Go post in the japanese forum and MAYBE get critiqued by that one lonely japanese guy who still plays DUST.

Huh... They don't get you drilling kanji in college courses? Kinda important if you want to read anything and it's best to get started as soon as possible.

Need to work out how to install Japanese characters on a PS3 at some point. Was running with a Japanese squad the other day and got a mail from the SL which is all boxes.

Thanks for that. As for kanji it really is best to just get in there as early as possible. It gets easier as you go along because prior characters become radicals within other kanjis, begin forming natural mnemonics. µÇÆpéï (püèpüôpéï- to be angry) is a classic example. It's radicals comprise of the kanjis 'woman' 'again' 'emotion'. If you know those three it's very easy to remember that kanji.

Anki's a good tool for testing yourself, getting these things ingrained into long term memory. Create a custom deck and add in kanji as you learn them, review it every now and then. Putting it off is never going to make it any easier or more expedient.
