So constructive post time! Also, Japanese 101 is paying off. Woohoo! lol
A while back I made a post saying that I was going to Rosetta Stone to learn some more Japanese to be able to help out Japanese players. Well I suck at this because life throws fastballs and occasionally the pitcher decides to change targets and aim at the batter. (Super-summarized life story finished and moving on.)
Anyways, while looking at TweetDeck, I noticed a couple of tweets for Dust 514 were Japanese. Here's a couple:
https://twitter.com/takezounikonama/status/364625307858251776: "Feeling defeated, and terrible lag DUST 514 for free because I thin."
https://twitter.com/tsumu_niconico/status/364676475313602560: "DUST 514 games of not sure what to do"
https://twitter.com/Mel25_Hyades/status/364679710044725249: "DUST 514 discredit what I thought, because I have a sense of suspended. And what is it. GEB DLC and GE2 trial because that I preferred it. Seoul's with after dark."
https://twitter.com/tsutiya09/status/364697271054503936: "It is the basic free FPS PS3 dust 514. This interesting point so"
(Translated using Bing. Because TweetDeck uses it for some odd reason. Note, I like Google translate better. INB4 lol Y-U-BING-BRO?)
Terrible lag? That's some feedback. Not sure of what to do? Rookie training grounds and maybe DS10 could show you the ropes. Some are still not sure of it, others are interested in it.
And so:
LANGUAGE BARRIER.
Now that I've pointed out the problem, I'd like to become part of the solution.
Yes, I understand that there is some things wrong with the game still and it's not up to par with the feeling many of use had back in Fanfest 2009 when Dust was in prototype stage shown off with the Carbon engine, or that feeling we had watching a capital ship bombard a planet for the first time in Fanfest 2012. No, I'm not saying all of us should sit down and learn Japanese either. But there is a language barrier that is separating players in a very unique game. And I'd like to take a step to tear that barrier down.
I remember one match specifically out of all the battles I've had in Dust. I was apart of the squad, representing America on the east coast, another squad mate was from the west coast of the US, another from South America, another from Europe, another from Japan, and another from Australia. Yeah, there was lag, but it was definitely a pretty cool feeling knowing that your squad is from different corners of the world.
In any case, I'll do my best to help out as I am part Japanese myself (and I love Japanese culture, food, anime, blah blah blah) but I post in hopes that some of you out there want to help me in overcoming this language barrier.
See you on the battlefield. o7
