I stack armor and go laser vs laser and win most of the time since either they're glass cannons or they shield tank. The ones that give me the most problems are heavies LRs. Also sharpshooter.

ARs already do more damage to shields than armor so I switched to armor plates when using the laser. I'm slow as hell but I can tank light sharpshooter prof. ARs and other lasers and survive more than when using shields. Shields on the other hand ...

It's not the AR it's light sharpshooter. I feel the same as you when a light sharpshooter proficiency AR kills me from across the map when I'm using the laser. This skill makes weapons ridiculous, not just the AR.
