Maybe as a gameplay mechanic, the plants can be obstacles that can be dangerous to players. A giant Venus Flytrap is one example.

I would like the shields to be like a wall instead of a dome. Neither friendlies or enemies can shoot through it. They can still be deployed like the nanohives.
