I would say its more likely they set it up that way 'intentionally' just for the BETA. That way guyz like you don't roll around in Tanks all day long. Everything is intensely imbalanced, makes it more fun that way.

All your items are likely fine, the game simply loaded your character incorrectly. Try a restart, you might find that everything you bought is still there and more.
