I am a new player. I suspect I'm a little unusual in that I like to read about what a game is about, and I joined because some friends have been playing since beta. Apparently, it was different. The Academy was not really useful for me as a tool....

This sounds awesome. I have been using a MD, but really want to like the laser rifle...just haven't seen anyone else use it, so couldn't see how to use it most effectively. Is it now worth investing points into it (like heat reduction and cooldown)?
