There is a loss of accuracy, not to mention the tremendous muzzle climb. Standard assault rifles (Assault Rifle/GEK-38 Assault rifle/etc) suffer the worst, while breach rifles tend to have less of a problem which may be due more to the smaller mag...

True, but squad leaders cannot put defend orders on captured objective points, only vehicles, installations, supply depots and (I believe) CRU's. A fix to this would be nice as well as for people who don't play in squads give them a bonus to kills...
