It's a common problem. Bad server system combined with 80% of the players having third world internet makes for some horrendous lag/hit detection issues for everyone. I don't know anything about the first corp you mentioned, but Carbon 7 is legit.

Heavy nerf hasn't affected my stats, outside of a minimal loss to available Armor on my fittings. And, Yes - new players should go to Mediums/Assaults and get to know the most basic role, weapons, equipment, and how things work first.
