How many of the Matchmaking woes would be quelled with Team Deploy and/or a Team Deploy game mode?
Similar to Corp Battles, but with a less exclusive title. Added Wagering mechanic for extra ISK and incentive? Salvage mechanic more akin to PC drops?
I don't always blap Infantry with a Forge Gun, but when I do, that ** is hilarious.

Rattati if you can stop this happening, I guarantee you players of legion and Dust alike will sing songs about you on the battlefield.

no one want to do it but the fix to match making is Tiers. 5 mil SP increments. So many games use this style.
0-1mil(sort of a newer and slightly better NPE),
1-5 mil sp(top end here should have ADV suits/weapons),
6-10 mil SP (should have a proto something), 11-15 mil SP,
16+ (all out war).
In this the NPE becomes slightly better. Giving the N00b a chance to feel out the game and not get ****** over by the BS proto-stompers that can't play in a PUB w/o full gear. (god forbid someone lose a pub) |

I had a similar idea about filtering grades of match in the battle finder and only allowing the supply depots to issue certain levels of gear depending on those selected filters (its in https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=171997&find=unread). I like this idea however the only thing I would suggest is that allowing match making to make the decision may make a player who isn't that aggressive or skilled be rock bottom when it moves him up a grade of match. In which case allowing the user to selecting the grade of battle manually allows a below average player to choose when he moves up to the next type of match.
This way he can opt to stay where he is comfortable until such time that he needs the challenge. For example just cus my EVE pilot has the rep to do level 5 missions doesn't mean I do them, I'm happier doing level 4's and EVE doesn't force me to move.
Also +1 for the suggestion and the name
Anyone getting annoyed by reading of the above post should consider the following.
I don't care so neither should you :)

Too intimidated to even comment?
Rattati, I'm disappointed.
Let the records show that Rattati has failed to publicly accept the Challenge. Bring forth his supporters so that we may smite them with insults and berate them for their lemmings' mentality.

Increased matchmaking is a great way of making FW-style 10 minute queues. I know this because they tried it back in (I think) 1.4. No thanks. |

Second it should be a list of times when match's start and the player can click and wait. Third limit one squad per Corp so this would solve the stomping some receive. Fourth have it based on SP so a sprinkling of different levels are on each side. This IMO would be a big step to really fixing the matchmaking issue. That is a wad of overly complex vagary that doesn't directly and definitively address the problem: stomp. SP doesn't dictate lethality, I get squished by newbies in starter fits all the time, and I have 32mil career SP. If sides are even by lethality, it would not matter when you entered either side, because the chances of entering a stomp drops to near nil. Besides, if every match is going to be roughly the same level of challenge (and one that increases with skill and experience), quitting out is pointless, and simply would not occur. Corps can send as many squads as they like, because it's lethality (aka challenge) that is going to separate them. the sig, it is truth. But then you would only have a bunch of heavies, snipers and some slayer scouts. No logics or pilots. The problems lies in the variety of play styles that are tracted in different ways. Player a has a high k/d only because he ovoids fightin but isn't skilled enough to go up against vets Player b has a lower k/d because he is very aggressive. His could be fixed using over all kills in combination but then we would still be leaving out other roles such as logis. The answer to match making will be a fairly complicated algarithum that will have to be fine tuned. Our deva are programmers and not mathematicians. Think deeper than the first match.
K/D(r) matchmaking fixes the whole game.

Single stat matching wouldn't take any longer than dividing up teams alphabetically.

Single stat stacking of solos and squads, divide into groups of 32, enjoy. Yeah it would be okay if it basically just took the players presently available and sorted them by whatever criteria into two teams. But I think it probably already does that.
The problem is that a lot of battles start (i.e. you leave the merc quarters) with fewer than 32 players (sometimes much fewer). The battles only fill up on the loading screen and as the battle starts, by which point the teams have already been decided. So when you launch the battle it's 10 vs 10 with balanced teams (squad on each side, say), but then during the loading screen/at start of battle a six man protostomp squad joins and the battle is going to be one-sided whichever side they join.
The only way to deal with that issue is to make the game wait until it has 32 players before it launches, but then queue time increases significantly, which is not worth it IMO.
EDIT for maths fail. |
