It's not a parachute, its magic. Don't try your real life mumbo jumbo on magic, it isn't going to work. It's probably the same thing that allows a Stiletto to slow down from 10km/s to 0m/s in a few seconds without ripping itself apart.

I agree with the sentiment of the OP, this is an issue that's brought up often but I think it deserves to be. Right now this is probably the #1 issue that holds back the core gameplay of DUST and it needs the most attention.
