Don't forget combiner mechs made out of vehicles. How about this: Tanks for feet, dropships as legs, another tank as a torso, 2 dropships each for arms, pairs of LAVs for pincer hands, and an LAV for a head. LOL.

The LR is good for longish to med range only. It sucks at close-ish to CQC. Also, Laser damage is determined by how much it's heated, so fire it at the ground for a while, and swipe it at an enemy for high amounts of damage when it's heated enough...
