I would prefer a specific type of turret that locks on (such as the swarm launcher does for infantry). An AV turret on an actual vehicle. But you have to ask yourself if it would get nerf hammered to the ground.

If they lowered the grenade cap from 3 to 2 for a max of 5 with the skill capped, then sure. As for RE and PE, 1 per level would be way too much IMO. This isn't minesweeper.
