ok so this continues to happen but I don't think that corners are a key variable. It happens most often when turning corners but apparently I don't need to. Still only occurs with enemies nearby.

This nearly happened again, a turret dropped right onto my nose, again! But I wasn't stuck inside it this time, but I still survived but lost considerable shields and maybe a quarter of my armor.
