Dear Dropship Pilots,
I salute you. I respect those that have remained, despite the hardships.
The Dropship pilots have had it bad for the longest time now. People are crying over tanks, saying this and that, quitting this and that, but to be frank with my opinion? If all the tankers disappeared, I wouldn't miss them. Hell, I'd rejoice a bit, as that would effectively cripple so many corps using them as crutches. They'd just use the mini-tank LAVs anyways. If all the Dropship pilots left? I'd be sad.
I am normally a heavy user. I am slow. I don't get around much. I can take a beating, I can deal massive damage. If I can't get around, I get shot. If I can't get around, I can't shoot. I value Dropships far more than any LAV. Dropships give me, the heavy, the ability to drop anywhere on the map. LAVs? Limited. They're mainly used for bumper cars anyways. Personally, I've never flown a Dropship. I've passengered enough and shot down enough to know that they are glass houses. I've gotten to the point to where I don't even shoot at them unless they are A: A gunship or B: Trying to land on buildings.
Though people **** and moan about this weapon set, that dropsuit set, it's only the scouts and dropships that are consistently ignored. Yes, scouts, I acknowledge your desperate need for a strengthening, though I personally enjoy my scout ninja since it goes in and out of the enemy redlines with zero problems. However, scouts, always remember that you are not as desperate as the Dropships.
So I salute you, remaining Dropship pilots, for being here still. I'm extremely grateful whenever I get to passenger alongside my team in one.
With love,
An Understanding Heavy
P.S. I am actually training out an alt right now for Dropships, to join you in the skies. It sure is costly just for books. |

yeah, dropships have it hard. one of the only truly one-shottable vehicles. I mean seriously, I do it all the damn time, and my tanks aren't exactly great by any stretch of the word.
mad props to the ones who build a good ADS though, I hate those guys because they're the hornet to my tarantula. But I respect them because that takes some real skill to do consistently. |

i have a friend who i doorgun for every once and a while, and i cant tell you the ammount of respect i have for the skill the oldschool (is it to soon for that yet) DS pilots have. ground vehicles have a hard time with their local tank and moving into and out of an area while getting shot at, but for the most part, their lives arent to difficult. dropships... theres is verry little cover in the sky, their paper thin, prone to fliping over, and you cant run after them with a rep tool. to all you DS pilots out there doing what it is you do in the sky, thank you, and my hopes go out to ya with 1.5. |

All this brings me to partial tears, almost. I've been flying since closed beta and have had to rely on others for funding of my ships. Now-a-days most of us pilots can hardly survive 2+ games without getting shot down.

Its really not that bad.
Tank Rail fire v. Dropships is fine as is.
There needs to be some work done about Forge Gun fire v. Dropship.
There are two easy roads here.
Buff the Dropship (but I don't want to be god mode, I NEED to be counterable to keep the game fun for those on the ground)
or
Make the Forge Gun have damage drop off over range (but I need to still be able to snipe ANYONE within vision over 300 meters! Also, it will become too weak versus tanks to be effective.)
Its a delicate thing this, and as a veteran pilot who dominates the skies (when proto forges aren't around or are sufficiently suppressed) our counters NEED to be there. In pub matches with insufficient AV... my gunner can net easily over 30+ kills.
Swarms are nicely balanced v. Dropships. They hit hard enough to have to take notice. They give you a chance to react. They can't one shot you, even at proto level, if you have a good build.
Hmmm....

you do make a good point, by buffing the dropship to take shots from forge guns with a simple hp buff, then the swarms that are already balanced against them, will feel under-powered against them, and if you nerf the range on the FG, then that would feel UP. perhaps give dropships a resistance to rail-gun-like shots |

I'd advise taking a few shots at them with your sidearm. That's how I know people want a lift. Then again, sometimes we really don't want any passengers for one reason or another, especially blueberries. Reasons could include:
- I'm in a rush and don't have time to wait
- If I'm hurt badly and need to recall the vehicle, passengers frequently won't get out, which prevents me from sending it back (*cough*ADDAKICKBUTTON*cough*)
- My door gunners frequently shoot the side of my ship, screwing up the shot I'm currently lining up
- I pack some rocking militia heat on my side turrets (which saves me ~300K/ship), so you probably would be better on the ground with your Duvolle

I do try to pick up people who generally want a lift to the objective, what I do is prevent them from shooting anything, forcing them to jump out on the contested area, and take it over in my name! |

Uuuuugh. Don't mention the Duvolle, man. I was in the Acadamy a few moments ago with my dropship pilot to-be and the entire enemy team was running Duvolles. It... was the saddest thing I've ever seen in Dust. |

I do know how bad the door gunners have it, I tend to run blasters in my team ship, easier for the gunners to get the kills, and I deal with vehicles/installations with my own missile launcher. but I do not tend to let blues in it without a mic, that way, I can communicate with them. |

To dropship pilots, specifically the unlucky ones from yesterday.
I would say "sorry" for hacking and stealing your dropships yesterday, but it wouldn't be genuine as I would do it again in a heartbeat. They were really nice dropships though, with all kinds of modules. Best joyride I'd had in days. I flew circles around the map, hoping you would be forced to destroy your own ships, but strangely no one tried to shoot me down. That's why I purposefully crashed near your team, so that you could see your own ship go down in flames because of an inexperienced pilot.
I hope it hurt you on the inside.
