The basics 30 players.... 5, 6 man squads (each with their own colour) Free for all for 24 hour rights to a district. Winner takes all ISK payouts as reward. (or something worthwhile) Friendly fire most certainly on.
Why Casual players are missing the "endgame" in DUST, that is PC. First because they can't get 16 together once a day, and most players never will. And yes CCP, this requirement is too much from the get go for a console game. They are also missing out on the joys of friendly fire and a truly competitive game with being forced to play pubs with crap blues and unsportsmanlike AFKers. A 6 man squad however is doable.
The game has progressed so far that it will be months if not a year before new players get the chance of getting into a current PC match as is. This is also asking too much of a console game.
Other stuff Keep current PC, add this one as next PC phase. Big PC, small PC. This will pull out Protosquad pubstompers like current PC and faction warfare has completely failed to do. No need to write up a whole new code as a game mode.. just the 5 team thing. Squad leaders's corp name goes on district. Open for attack no matter what after 24 hours. Last match winner gets first dibs on the action, the longer they hold it, the bigger the rewards.... to a cap I suppose.
Gameplay Skirmish? Regular objectives, no redzones? Hacked objectives HEALS your MCC. Domination? Same as above. Ambush OMS but with MCCs and redzones NOBODY could stay in? Could be interesting.... All of them on different districts?
Win Scenarios Last man standing? Could be issues with someone hiding out, but hey, could also be interesting. K/D ratios? WP? MCC destruction, last one flying.
Possible exploits and fixes ... cause it wouldn't be EVE if you didn't have these fracking clowns. 5 squads in same corp/alliance crushing 6th. Simply only allow one squad from each corp entering match, or hide names and or battle district is random? I think if pubs shrink and this type of secondary PC were to grow, exploits in this fashion should be easy to manage. Hell, if you can find 18 guys willing to eat **** so 6 can triumph....

Personally I think No.
Planetary Conquest is a dedicated goal, currently requiring a regular team of 16 players... (in the future we're hoping ALOT more). As you rightly stated, PC is End Game. Currently, however, it is the ONLY end game. There needs to be more, small group designed, end game. Changing PC to suit smaller groups only makes the bigger ones who can already field full teams stronger.
1 team of 16 players holds 3 districts Vs. 2 Teams of 8 Players over same period holding 6 districts.
PvE, Open World, and such are options to open up other forms of end-game.. such as supply raiding, that incorporates into your 'small gang' style. A Squad busts in, steals some supplies, and gets out. Sells for profit. That is how we should cater to the 'smaller' guys.
Holding land and such, should ONLY get bigger. |
