Imo melee could use with a few minor changes.
1) - decrease the melee animation time by about 20% it worked wonders for switching weapons and I think it would help melee a lot as well.
2) - increase the base damage by about 80%, I'm pretty sure I could beat on a standard proto suit for about a week and not kill them.
3) base melee damage on the suit, heavier the suit more the damage, so if a heavy manages to hit you with his slow suit you should definately feel it.
finally a change that I personally think would give melee a purpose in this game, make it so a melee hit will ALWAYS break shields. if the damage would be enough to do more then the targets shields then carry the damage over, but otherwise make it break the shields.
this would give melee a strong use outside of just getting the last hit, and would also give a slight weakness to shield tanks at the same time, would also make for a strong opener when sneaking up on people. |

I Agree that Shield tanks are OP, but This, like may other suggestions, would make them UP.
I think Armor Needs a buff, but as you said in your post, this would be an indirect nerf to shield tanks, just how slowing strafe would be an indirect nerf to Armor.
Melee DEFINATELY needs to be buffed, cause with my C-1 Assault, I could take 4 beats with melee before I die, and it makes the point of sneaking up on a Target worthless, unless you use NKs or SGs, in which you sacrifice so much in range that that bonus to alpha strike is made worthless.
tl;dr I agree Melee needs a buff, but making it break shields instantly would be an indirect nerf to shields, instead, Buff Armor to Melee, and the just buff armor in general. |

1) Sure, but you're going to run out of endurance quicker. 2) No - you shouldn't be able to kill any suit with a single melee attack. 3) Already in - lights do 80, mediums 120, heavies 150(at least that's how it was in 1.1). 4) No - way too overpowered, a scout could take out any shield tanked suit with three melee strikes. |

Damage is already scaled, melee speed should be as well. Level things out so everyone has around the same damage/minute with melee, not counting stamina drain or modules or stuff.
Also, it would be nice to melee enemy equipment to death.
Also, ohk proto tanks with melee. |

I do this all the time.
I kinda like the idea of melee damage having a bleedthrough on shields, though not a 100% bypass. |

Uhh.. My commando has 240 melee damage per hit. I believe it can be bumped up to a max 360 with the 50% melee damage bonus (but who the hell specs into that tree?)
But seriously, the slow movement and poor frontline sustainability I believe I have only made 1 successful melee kill with the suit since 1.2.
Melee is pretty much useless in this game. |

yep thus why I want it improved, the ability to break shields would at least give it a purpose, and to those who think it would be OP, it's not easy to even land a hit with melee, let alone do it reliably or frequently.
I can see it happening, but I can't see it happening frequently.

If you think that, you're just doing it wrong.
Melee isn't for "frontline" assaults (the act, not the dropsuit), it is for sneaking up behind your target and smacking the **** out of them.
The only time melee is for "frontline" assaults, is when your opponent is dumb enough to be within arms reach in front of you. |

this isnt Halo, both armor and shield tanks need to be EQUALLY valid, which means armor needs a buff of some sort, without turning it into "lol shields but not"

I've finished off at least 3 with melee this week(medium suit). Not completely useless although it is hard to aim them. I probably haven't hit 40 since uprising was released though. |

I finish guys off with melee at a rate of about 1 per month, some guy will be down to about hull if it was eve and i'll be out of bullets and at that time i'll try to land a melee.
any person who thinks they could straight rush shield tank Ar users land a melee hit, pop their shields and then finish them off will go bank rup pretty quickly I suspect.
you might be right it could be broken but I'd run it through tests first, I highly doubt the shield tanks would all migrate to armor tanking just for this weakness. it still has so many massive advantages over shield tanks that this one tiny flaw wouldn't really change much. |
