The current active scanners are great.... they have wide and narrower scanners, will the following approximate stats:
Wide: 60 degree scan, 100m range Narrow: 30 degree scan, 150m range
Now these scanners are cool for what they do, particularly for some close-range city combat.
However, there is an opening for an extreme-range, narrow beam scanner that could be used as part of a counter-sniper fit:
Suggested stats: 10 degree radius, 300m range
Naturally, you could play around with the cool-down and the duration of time the scanned target is "painted", but you get the idea.
So... thoughts? |

Most snipers are more than 200 meters away form the combat, and most counter-snipers are probably shooting from 300+ meters.

sorry if this is a near copy pase of a recent response but it fits
as someone who snipes almost exclusively i dont think this is necessary as target acquisition, tracking and selection are all parts of being a sniper, you dont need some fancy scanner to counter snipe you need to get better at locating targets with your eyes and hit indicators
if your having trouble locating an opposing sniper then pay attention to the direction from which shots are coming from and scan for possible hiding spots/ vantage points in that direction. if you still cant find them then communicate with your team to see where they have noticed shots coming from as most are more then happy to get rid of a nuisance sniper. |

This argument could be repeated verbatim for close combat scanners. Scanners are not replacing team communication or situational awareness in combat now, giving snipers a usable version would not change anything that isn't already being dealt with by shorter range assaults.
Scanners aren't strictly necessary for anyone now and as a result not a lot of people carry them. But they do have a place if you're not sniping, and a long range scanner would give a totally reasonable option to snipers to do the same. |

What dB would you make it? Also how long would the scan be for? Because if it was too long, even if it was a narrow beam, you can still sweep them and get wider areas. I think it should at least be 28, forcing any sniper wanting to avoid it to at least have 2 dampeners and dampening V. Also, how long would it last? |

I dislike this idea.
22,500 = 1/2 300*300*sine(30)
Would have to have a ridiculously low scan duration (1 second) to prevent covering huge areas via turning while scanning (something that can easily be accomplished with 5 second scan duration scanners) or at the very least a 36db scan precision to accomodate for scouts. Otherwise you're going to be revealing large portions of the map in no time with little to no defense against it. |

I still think deployable scanners would be cool. Even if they "pulsed" rather than actively scanned.
Looking at uplinks on the overview though, they give off a pulse animation like CRUs do making me think they have some basic level of radar...? |

Some people have expressed interest in more clone pack options[REQUEST] Extreme range scanner -https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1132609#post1132609Status: We would like to see player feedback on the scanners being introduced in 1.4 first. But it is a good idea.-á
From CCP logibro I can't quote it right now on my mobile
I like this idea and at 300m it would have decent width, 90m. The main problem would be cost, it's so niche that if to expensive on cpu/pg/ISK it would quickly become irrelevant |

I would like to see a stronger vehicle mounted scanner, one that when activated would scan a large area directly below a dropship. We need AEWACS. |

I love active scanners.
In fact, I'm amazed they aren't getting nerfed. lol
An active scanner enables you to see nearly every hostile player around you instantly, to the very edge of weapon's range...
What major shooter right now gives you that much power to use AT WILL? lmao @ asking for a stronger scanner.
If anything, the one's we have now should be nerfed. lol They are way too good! (No, I'm not complaining.)
There's already a scanner that's frickin *90* degrees at *200* meters. looool. Any further than that, and your stealth snipers are useless.
I love active scanners, but no to the idea of an extreme range scanner. I'm sorry man, that's just too much power. The active scanners already grant SO much power as it is. |

Well.... longer range scanners paint the target for less time, and they have a scan strength.
Maybe this will cause snipers to start wearing profile dampeners in their low slots, and not stack armor plates... |

Even longer range with a narrower field.
Say... 10 degrees width, but 300m range?
Great for spotting things like tanks for snipers for the rest of your team, but not great for area-wide scanning. |

You could make it a target painter . . . . 5 degree, upto 500m, scoped paints target for upto 5secs, 10 sec cooldown? |
