I've always loved the idea of Mortars in DUST, make them as fancy as you want but in the end they're still indirect fire weapons. Playing with the Plasma Cannon, I thought wouldn't it be cool if I could use it as a Mortar type weapon, but how would it work.. Perhaps if there was a marker on the ground and it pulled the projectile towards it..
So I thought what if the Attack Order did this, allow it to be placed on the ground but rather than it just show it on the ground, when you have a indirect fire weapon equipped, a circle appears in the air that firing at would allow you to precisely hit your target. Ofcourse you'd have to take into account how far away you are from the target and if there are objects in the way, but I think it'd be cool. |

So generate a firing solution for you? Seems a bit easy-mode, though of course the plasma cannon is currently awful.
Putting the placon in a mortar role would be an interesting use of it. |

Not necessarily easy-mode, more, the target displayed means you can hit the attack marker on the ground, meaning the Squad leader would need to be watching the enemy, putting down the marker, it also means if the marker is off then you're going to score minimal damage rather than direct hits.
So it becomes a teamwork based activity, I can see 6 man crews trying it out, Squad leader providing overwatch and setting targets, the players firing plasma on to the target, then another 6 man crew firing at said mortar crew, it sounds brilliant :P |

It does, yeah. Of course, due to the slow rate of projectile movement if targets moved the PLC wouldn't really be able to hit them. It's a really cool idea but I think the PLC needs a buff to projectile speed and splash radius to be viable for this.
I did initially think that having aiming provided for you was somewhat 'easy mode' but seeing as you'd have to set the marker properly and they'd have plenty of time to dodge, I think that's fair enough. |

You'd still have to fire at a circular target in the sky, I can guess quite a few people won't be able to do it xD Aye, I think the projectile speed needs a buff, the splash damage needs to be raised, I mean why is it a Flaylocks splash is like 90% the direct damage? and the splash radius needs to be upped, keep the project at one per clip and bam, you've quite a reasonably balanced indirect fire weapon :D |

I like the idea, it can get rid of pesky campers holding the objectives. I think it would be better on a tank tho |

I think the idea would apply to current weapons such as Mass Drivers and Plasma Cannons, as well as the possibility to adding it to Artillery turrets, this means yes you can deliver damage, but with the slow pace of the weapons players can move, also, taking out the squad leader (Need a new Icon for squad leaders really) would mean there would be no new update for the artillery. |

This week the dev team discussed the following gameplay issues and player feedback:
[SUGGESTION] High Orbit Pulse Scan - revealing enemies where they are for a short period of time Update: Features like this are something we will be looking at for the "Commander" role. We also have an improved active scanner that will be out in a future update that will fill this gap on the squad level.
[SUGGESTION] Anti-Vehicle turrets - turret variation Update: We are working on clearer definition of roles for turrets, including anti-vehicle specializations. We are also experimenting with mounts that will allow the use of infantry weapons. However, additional testing/balancing is required.
[REQUEST] Variation of the current LAV - LTV (Light Transport Vehicle) Update: We have some ideas for a module that when fitted would make vehicles be similar to an APC. Although for now our focus is to optimize existing vehicles.
[REQUEST] Low ammo icon, nanohive carrier symbol, and ammo requests Update: The dev team will be looking at how to implement this in future updates.
[REQUEST] Mortar-like weapons Update: We have a design that will give the Mass Driver a secondary fire mode that is very similar to a mortar and other designs for "area of effect" weapons as well. For now we are focusing on imporving existing weapons first.
[FEEDBACK] Gameplay: gunplay, movement, and ADS Update: In our next update there are a number of improvements to the controls in and out of ADS including new sensitivity tuning options. We will be doing more work on this and making improvements to the aim assist system in future updates.
That's it for this week, thank you for your interest and we'll be back next week with more updates! |

Would be cool to have small installations as mortars. Call them down in a safe area and control it from there. Then we could have mortar turrets on vehicles too. Could implement a plasma cannon variant as mortars though... although they're probably meant to be portable mid-range AV bombardment. I always envisage mortar fire as inaccurate and powerful and long-range, coming from an immobile source. |

Ever considered trying to add helpful suggestions / criticism about the current game, instead of trying to get new things designed for the game when there are still things that are not properly working since beta?
No, no, no why would you consider that, let your imagination run wild and scream for the shiny new toy on the shelf. |

I look at the possibilities of expanding current items roles, I like being creative and offering suggestions to CCP that they might've not thought of.
Forgive me for not posting things repeatedly, if you just search my name in the search box in the feedback section, you'll find plenty of fix suggestions for previous things that CCP has said they're looking into, so again, forgive me for having ideas.

I don't know if it would turn it into easy-mode, again with needing teamwork to set the order in place (Or solo but with a visual on it.) You're still firing a one round shot per clip weapon, solo you're going to be pretty slow doing it yourself, it'd be easier rushing people and firing at their feet :P

Once they open up 32v32 and 64v64 then mortars would be a solution. Make them one man operable, have them target a location to fire from the map, and make the projectile have a travel time so it isn't instant win mode, like a 15 sec travel time. Have a variant that has a smaller blast radius but much larger damage for anti-vehicle, a variant that does large area, low damage, and a variant with lower radius and damage, but faster travel time. A squad of mortars could really change the battlefield once we get bigger battles. |

It could be an equipment type of weapon for logies. They have been talking about wanting kills (nonsense) so this could be a good solution. I'd like to see a mark option for OBs, you can wait for your squad to get ready to storm an objective and have the objective locked for an OB. |

No, no, no why would you consider that, let your imagination run wild and scream for the shiny new toy on the shelf. I'm pretty sure they have different teams working on different things so them making new things wont impede the other teams from doing their job at fixing another thing |

The older tribes games had a target painter that did just this. One player would point it and a line and two dots would show up for everyone else, telling them the two points they could aim at to land a hit (high arc and low arc.) I have been wanting this in dust for a while, though there are only a few guns that could make use of it. Could also be used to point out enemies. |

I like the idea of the Mass Driver becoming the new mortar weapon of choice. Or add physics to allow the round to drop after a certain arc angle. |

Mortars would be great, in wolfenstein enemy territory if I wasn't an engineer I'd mortar and have my buddy spot for me but I admit, I spawn camped the absolute fk out of those natzis from the other side of the map, spelt wrong because of censor.
Seriously great idea but spawn camping would need sorting because it will get abused. |

shameless bump for an amazing idea. I could see this as being viable for mass drivers and plasma cannons, one for armor and one for shields (plasma doing the higher damage as a mortar, seeing how mass drivers are so efficient at slaughtering). The target to be fired at can be designated by a squad member equipped with a target painter (such as EVE's, which could also double as an active scanner that designates one target for say, 10 seconds). |
