I'd really like to get into shotguns on an alt, but I like the sound of this medium/assault suit + shotgun setup.
Is it viable, not being able to zip around and all?

The minmatar medium suit is ideal for this.
Shotgun, shield mods in the mids, speed mods in the low. Active scanner or nanohive for your equipment.
The minmatar medium is best because it has a high natural speed and is also still good for shield tanking. |

Pretty much this, I would have recommended my shotgun fit on a Caldari Assault but this would be a great fast and Tanky fit. I do experiment with A Caldari proto with two Complex Extenders two Complex rechargers and two enhanced regulators for just shy of 400 shield HP with 51HP per sec regent. It's not very Tanky but shield regen is insane. I've been accused of "shield glitching". |

I was running around with the hk34 or whatever it's called, the one you can only get from salvage , on a dren assault. I'm not sure what the exact fit was, but I can say medium shotgun fits are effective |

The Minmatar medium and assault suits both have a 7.4m/s sprint. A militia catalyzer in a low slot will actually put you above the base speed of either of the scout suits. Even without catalyzers, it's fast enough for you to run it like a tankier shotgun scout. I have only just over 3M SP and I have a pretty good time with this on a Assault M-1 suit:

CRG-3 Shotgun, KLO-3 Scrambler pistol, KIN-012 Nanite injector, flux grenades
~430HP, ~7.2m/s sprint.
In a good squad, it plays a pretty similar role to a shotgun scout. While your squad engages, you sneak around the side and flank. Nobody knows you're there until it's too late. It helps to opportunistically finish off anybody who's running from the front lines to rep, or anybody that you think may have seen you coming.
Unlike a shotgun scout, you have to manage your stamina a little and it's not as ninja-stealthy or capable of lots of sustained sprinting. On the upside, you don't have to hit-and-run as much and I think the medium suit with a shotgun actually freaks people out more, as it takes more than a lucky shot to bring you down.
Also, it helps to practice your shotgun assault skills by spending some time in an even cheaper shotgun scout suit. I definitely think that my time spent in a BPO-only Dren Scout loadout has improved my shotgun assault game. |

As others said red pills are key to a good medium shotty build, if you have to mix between the arep or reactive plate. |

Ummm i use gallente assult with a basic cardiac regulator profile dampner armor rep and shield extender and its Epic suprisingly the profile dampner helps alot o and get the skill that increases speed by 1 percent to max it really helps |

I usually run CRG-3s, but Militias/Basics are just as well while getting used to it w/o wasting a lot of SP or ISK. |

HAHAHAHAH... The aiming is GIMPED currently, it is nearly POINTLESS trying to shotgun right now. No QQ here, you'll see what I mean once you try the shotty. There's so many things wrong with aiming right now I can barely play. Nothing compared to COD or BF3, aiming is a JOKE here. |

No it's BAD. All I've used are shotguns in every FPS I've played. I've gotten pretty damn good with them too, but in all the other games the aiming WORKED. I'm telling you from first hand experience that aiming is gimped right now. Much worse than BF3 used to be before they patched the input lag. It's bad I tell you. Almost one hundred thousand kills with the 870 MCS on BF3, trust me- shotguns are a joke right now. Haven't even included when you run into "super strafers" aka keyboard freaks. They'll be strafing faster than you can keep the reticule properly aimed. When CCP finally fixes aiming, my god people will be scared to go in small crowded areas. I'm not the only shotty guy using damperners either so you won't see us on your radar even with an Active Scanner. Bless the Minmatars Logistics even slots. |

All those guys who say Minmatar assault are geniuses. It's exactly the suit you want. Fast and can shield tank loads, something you'll want in CQC. My suggestion is that you also invest in scan dampening and enhancements skills. You wanna be stealthy with that weapon. Close in and kill fast.
For the assault a basic dampener should be enough so that scouts who haven't skilled into enhancements can't see you. You'll get like 44 dB of profile. Basic precision enhancer should also be enough to get you around 48 dB so that you'll be able to see any medium suit on radar.
Logistics are too slow imo. Even though they can essentially speed tank because of high # of low slots I just feel it's a waste. Shotguns have crap range so you'll be using your sidearm a lot for situations where your target tries to escape or you're out-ranged. Submachine should help a lot and with Minmatar assault bonus it becomes OP with 100 ammo per clip. If you don't like Minmatar Caldari is a good option as well. Good luck.

Huh? Anyways Caldari or Minmatar are the best suits for this. Use Caldari if you want a high recharge rate. You really don't need a whole lot of speed if your very skilled, if you can get your sprint speed over 8.5 m/s your good

Use a nanohive if your using a specialist sg cause you'll need the ammo.
Edit: You don't really need a sidearm if your good. I use a cal logi suit, just got to know when to engage and when to flee. If you see someone getting the best of you use your speed to escape and circle back around to catch them off gaurd. I only use a smg on my basic Cko when I come across a proto gallente. Shotguns don't do well against armor unless your at point blank range. |

Prior to 1.3, ran 3x complex regs 2x extenders 3x complex energizers. 74hp/sec near instant recharge. on a cal logi.
massive fun, and good mobility since I'm used to running plated. sucked against high alpha shots though :/ |
