*raises hand* I actually switch to my knives after i use the AR to solely close the distance. The AR is extremely useful in this regard. Hell, I often forget to reload. I can only imagine their faces when some lil scout rushes them with an AR and finishes them off with a knife leap. When it works it's glorious! I've seen him doing it with my very eyes and can confirm that it's a sight to behold. Seems quite viable in the typical "AR sprayfest around the objective" situation as both run out of ammo at around the same time.
Shame I have no sidearm.

12k isk, plus the suits, modules, and their other weapon.
Fitting out a ninja for using the knife means making sacrifices with durability and damage output of everything that isn't a knife. Getting killed a handful of times by people who are dedicated towards making that weapon work at the cost of everything else isn't a big deal.

Doesn't matter, people will cry about 1-hit kills no matter how difficult it is to meet the needed conditions to pull the kill off. Its the same people what complain they get 1-shot killed at 5m because of a shotgun and cry that it's too strong. Engage the enemy within the range/situation where they're weapon is best suited, and you're going to get wrecked, simple as that. |

Look, a direct hit from a basic plasma cannon counts for over a thousand points of damage, yet it is rarely used.
Explain to yourself why it is that plasma cannon users are not striding the land like gods, and you'll have answered your own concern about the nova knife.
Over the weeks ahead, count the number of times you're killed by a nova knife versus a flaylock, scrambler pistol, or SMG. It may be a little closer to even if you're a heavy, but otherwise?
The nova knife is an uncommon weapon, and rarely used well when it appears. I specialize, and I'm okay, but I get far more kills with my remote explosives.
As a rule, it's too early to cry "OP" until something has become maddeningly common. The nova knife is rare. That says something, but "OP" isn't it. |

Nova knives are fine, I honestly don't remember the last time I was killed by one. I've been
attacked by knife users a few times for sure but it never ends well for them. Not saying
they were bad players or I'm a good player just that suits spec'd to run knives get ripped
apart quick by my hmg. Sometimes the first indication that I'm being attacked is my shields
disappearing then I go into "panic" mode and spin around while spooling the barrels until
I can lock on so to speak.
Honestly I love the merc with enough balls to run a knife fit. Leave 'em be, they've chosen
hard mode on purpose.
Op just watch your surroundings man and level up your scan precision.
(Thats the close up one right? I don't remember atm) |

Mostly the server not being able to handle projectile weapons correctly smg has the same problem if a bit less then it's big brother |

Give knifing a try for yourself if you haven't already, and then let me know what you estimate as the chances that nova knifing ninja's will take over dust. There are many scouts (let alone other classes), that don't use knives for good reason.... they are hard as crap to use and closing distance is a major challenge.
