Are turrets dropped to fixed points on the map (small sockets?) or is their position random when they begin to drop?
What will hapen when i stand in wrong place or park vehicle there? Will the clone/vehicle get squashed? |

It's fixed. You can learn their locations easily enough, and do so, I've had a turret land on me (didn't kill though), I got stuck... |

He is correct. They are on fixed locations with timers. Coincidentally we currently can not have them drop inside sockets. |

Can part of the turret, the shooting head, be fixed to other structures? Say, roof or wall of buildings? Or on RDV? |

"Technically" that is exactly what is happening. Turrets are all mounted pieces on vehicles and turret bases. |

Thanx for the reply So "technically" you could arm RDVs with turrets? Cos you know, RDVs have some autonomy (it looks like) and could make for dronez if armed... |

That's actually a really kick ass idea. |

CCP LogicLoop acknowledged that turrets fit in a socket on the base. Socket is a general name for a place where a (possibly movable) thing is hooked to another thing. The two things have to be set up with those places when they are designed.
I didn't see him say an appropriate socket existed on the RDV. I suspect it doesn't. So to make this happen there would have to be changes to the RDV model and then a bunch of programming to make the RDV a full-fledged actor in the game.
The point being that the level of work for the programming and the re-design might be a bit less for the RDV but then it would be a patched together solution, there would only be one type of opponent and it wouldn't be a lot less work. Doing it right from the start might produce a much better product.
And as an aside, those RDV pilots do enough damage just the way they are now.

Who knows what would happen to the poor turret AI if it was moving too?
Well hopefully the Devs know but I don't. It could just work or the AI could spaz out or just be useless. |
