6 or more months? As an Eve player, I have to say, your expectations of how much Eve ships cost is grossly exaggerated. The destroyers that we use to orbital bombard dusties can be bought with the money that I get from killing one, maybe two battleship rats(I don't know the exact numbers of the bounty that I get, because I haven't ratted in a long ass time.). You get a free destroyer as a reward for finishing the tutorial. And honestly, orbiting above a planet in low-sec space with your cloak off waiting for the chance to orbital bombard is dangerous enough as it is, no one is going to bring along a ship that they can't replace with an hour's or less worth of work, unless they're idiots. Of course there's idiots out there who are sometimes given access to enormously expensive ships, but part of Eve is learning how to prepare to lose stuff.
That being said, I think your first point does have some merit. As an Eve player, right now there's just no point to even interact with Dusties. There's no plus side for the Eve pilots.
Now if drones were to take over one of my personal PI colonies, my Eve pilot could single handedly fund a squad of Dusties to go into my colony and flush the drones out. I think Dust was originally going to be fought in PI colonies at first when the colonies were first introduced in Eve, but I think CCP realized that personally owned colonies were just not important enough for thirty people in Dust to fight for just to **** over one Eve pilot's income, so they switched to the district model.
However, I could totally see a niche for six player squads accepting contracts from single Eve players for something like 50mil isk or less to go and beat up a bunch of drones for a bit. Hell, if a drone infestation was affecting my PI colonies, I would probably give you orbital bombardments just to help you out, I make 95% of my income from PI. I can't let drones hurt that. |
