So that's whats going on. Hell I created a character yesterday that was sniper biased , today logged in and it had reset, well ok no probs I had only played a few games and about 5k wp. Today I sign in get an update an nothing but ambush maps.... which I hate, loath and always opt out off. At the 4th ambush map I was counting ppl in the holding room and figured there must not be enough new players to fill a skirmish map . CCP do you realize the impression you are sending? The game looks dead, not populated, as in hey no one is playing this. The impression is further re-enforced when it is the same map, over and over and over again. Around the 9th time I got an ambush map ( the same one every time, really?) I quit and logged back on, figured I was in some kind of ambush map loop hell, but no ambush again. Knowing full well that ambush is not the only map offered I went online and did a bug search, luckily I found this thread.
Sneaky Fletcher describes the circumstance of a new player well, they play only ambush , then suddenly get thrust to game modes they have not seen before. Now maybe it's a progression thing as Regis Blackbird describes and after suffering through enough ambush maps I will see a skirmish battle ( but with 8 players? wow that is seriously going to look like no one is playing the game!)
Sirs you need to present an image that this is a grand , vast, living and evolving online FPS game. 16 players trapped in a small map may not be the best way to showcase this. In one game that I stuck around long enough, ppl were leaving the battle so that is was 6 red and 7 blue, well 6 and 6 by the time I signed out. Seriously, log in and look at the holding room, 8 characters in this big room, two giant screens in either side ( and look I can see I made the board, though I do not have a s-i-n-g-l-e kill )
BTW, how did CCP communicate the change to players? I missed it. You did let new players know about this right... er right?

By "communicate" I meant ....did CCP explain to new players that ambush is only a very small sample of what the game has to offer. I have been playing DUST for 2 months now, I have an idea of what the game offer. Imagine your fist time playing and it's round after round on 8 on 8 on the same map, if you have an ALT I welcome you to play, try to see this as a new player. You quickly get the idea that a shotgun and quick maneuvering is the best game style, which I have to say is...if your only doing ambush against players that don't know the range of a shotgun. |

Just played 13 rounds of ambush in battle academy, below are my raw observations taken after every game. I am not an awesome player by any means and actually prefer to play academy games over the regular games. I find the game play seems better balanced , after all in academy every player is only a couple mill points apart , suit and fitting advantages are somewhat null.
I trust that CCP has intelligent ppl in the payroll, has done some type of group feedback and has decided this is the best strategy to garner and hold new players, I just don't see it working . Maybe if I just grind it out in a form of game play that I do not like for another 7K, I will be treated to another 10K of skirmish play, which I really really enjoy.Perhaps my style of use of the game does not fit into CCP demographics, they prefer I leave battle academy all together and play only with main characters. Perhaps I'll play something else.
16-0 blue 9:02 mark 04-0 red 9:07 mark 3rd game spawn in at 9-0 blue @10;18 ( played for 3-4 seconds recived 34K isk and 304sp) no shots fired 05-0 blue 10:55 mark 0-0 blue 9:22 ( 5 blue on field) 13-0 blue 10;05 mark 0-0 blue 9:17 0-0 blue 8:21 14-0 blue 11:00 mark 14-0 red 10:49 mark Best strategy - shotgun and grenade 15-3 blue 10;15 personal total so far wp 2430 K/d 39/31 - Assist kills are up 09-0 red 10:00 mark - best K/D seen @ this point 11/3 red force top player 04-0 red 8;00 mark personal total - wp2855 K/D 47/39 and completely bored.It was my intention to try and play to 10K WP but this is not fun, mind you I have never liked ambush, so the thought of having to play the same game type for a further 7K of wp just does not appeal to me.
Observations- spawn sites beginning to be predictable- guys group-up and and get taken out en mass by grenades - not running out of ammo due to quick deaths - no variety of game play - no real strategy required - squads are not being formed - there is no real strategy required, there are no objectives, there are no points to rally at to turn the "tide" of the game, at a certain point there is no doubt which team is going to win
