Protostomping is a symptom of only one thing: premade squading.
Split premade squads and solo players into two different groups for matchmaking.
If you enter a match already squaded then you are going to usually end up against proto guys.
If you solo play then you can join a squad upon entering the match.
If you are in the same corp then the system will automatically knock a player into another que or if not that many players, will stagger the team assignments.

This implies that people only use proto gear when they're with a squad of friends. This is not true. You're also implying that a premade squad with adv gear is not going to protostomp anyone. While technically true, they often can dominate the same. CCP has already said the matchmaking system will seek to group squads against other squads.
As I stated, if you group with a premade you run the risk of going against a proto squad. If you aren't all proto geared then you will have it tough. But, some people are apparently ok with this so they get to continue the "sandbox, anything goes" challenge.
Proto geared players can still dominate but the problem is the premade groups that are communicating AND from the same corp or corps that usually work together. Having a random matchmaking system can determine teams through matchmaking mechanics. Variables for separating players into teams or queues could be based on same corp, prevalence of corps that group together, same alliance etc.

FLAYLOCK Steve wrote:Lol seriously? I enjoy going against teams with more or better squads. It makes it more interesting and actually I get better that way. Let me guess, it takes you out of your comfort zone when facing a organized sqaud. Leave it as it is. I own people that have proto suits in pubs with my bpo dren suits. The only suit I have that isn't a bpo is a advanced min basic light frame suit and no I don't go around with flay locks like these try hards. I like my mass driver and tac ar :) or hmg or fg or sg! Lol idk hard to stick with one. But seriously get good.
There are a lot of players complaining about the lopsided matchmaking system. I offered a solution.
I should get good? What about the other players? Your being so leet isn't going to win a game if you don't already have a group that is as good as you. Proto stomps don't mean the players are better. It only means the gear is better.
There is no need for a video game based solely on how good the player is. You will lose customers. Nor should a game be based solely on the gear.
If you enjoy the challenge of going against highly organized proto squads then my suggested system would still allow that. If you organized a premade you will enter into the battles that the premade proto squads are playing.
Again, the point of my suggestion is that the premade grouping of corp mates that are proto geared is the problem, not that they are simply proto geared. It's the combination of gear, comms and experience with the game. Sure you might get some people going to great lengths to cheat the system but separating teams based on several criteria could go a long way to get a better mix instead of a bunch of leet corp protos exploiting the pub match system to farm easy kills.
I've been in many matches when the usual group of leet proto corps are not playing and I get into some much better matches that have more back and forth play. Either side could win. The proto guys winning is not as much of a forgone conclusion when they are not coming in already organized. |
