Easy answer,bad game design.
What's more stupid is that you can't pick up undetonated grenades. If I toss an AV and it doesn't blow up,does that mean that it just sinks to the core of the planet? |

OK IWS, answer that one :p Remotes are more traditional types of explosives and don't need external primers. Chances are the power grid drain on those are from shielding and cortex bandwidth usage. Keep in mind that they have to actually be armed before you die. Also, if this gets "fixed," I'm personally holding you responsible.
the way the grenade mechanics work,as soon as you pull out a grenade,it's armed.Never liked that. You should be able to run with a grenade in your hand as long as you want to,then cook it and throw it when you see fit.
I've said it before, but the grenade mechanics in this game need some serious reworking.

The material fizzles out without hitting critical energy barrier rendering it inert. Also for the grenades thrown at you unless you can reprogram them fast enough I caution against that. There are Concord convention rules that still have to be adhered to pertaining the use of explosives that get left on the battlefield. While our new salvage drones do a fairly good job finding all of our scraps the rule still applies from the pre-clone warfare. BTW Nearly 100% of the games using grenades gets it wrong. 1 The spoon doesn't stay attached. 2. You can't cook while the spoon is still on. 3. The pin has nothing to do with the grenade blowing up. Either way our locus and flux grenades don't seem to have spoons but they do have a particular priming interface which would require a precharge from the suit which means having one cook off in your hand is probably result of overloading. You do know that this is just a video game and not real life right?
That being said,if you have a slot open in your dropsuit to carry grenades, and are out,you should be able to pick one up off the ground,if they keep the same properties of them not exploding after your death.
Since there is a lot to take into account like CPU and PG requirements,I would say that the ability to pick them up isn't necessary, hence, all timed explosives should detonate even after clone death.
Again, bad game design by CCP to exclude something so simple. |

You're asking for grenades that you swap to just like everything else we have? I'm on board, I like it, CCP should make it so. Similar to how there is a difference between pick weapon/equipment and quick swap? I wouldn't mind.
This is how the grenades worked in MAG,that's how they should work in Dust. |

Just because another shutdown game did it doesn't mean dust should do it either.
They should when it worked flawlessly.
And MAG ain't shut down yet(though it should have been a long time ago). |

Similar to how there is a difference between pick weapon/equipment and quick swap? I wouldn't mind. Yeah, added to the radial weapon/equipment menu. I can also see Cosgars point (they would become a pain in the neck, however I doubt they'd be spammed more than they already are since you'd only have grenades up instead of tossing them with equipment/gun in your hand), though it would go a long way to maintaining consistency which I think is a good thing. As a player running with contact, grenade in your hand,or any other grenade for that matter,is that you don't have a gun and more than likely, the other guy does.If you get shot, while the grenade is still in your hand, then is should become armed, thus blowing your lifeless corpse up without the chance of a revive.
So there are pros and cons to it,and not just another way to abuse the systems of the game. |

Doesn't seem so bad, but I could see some scouts abusing it. I like the idea of swapping to a grenade though. It'd be a great way to cut down spam.
Forcing to swap could be seen as a clunky mechanic thought it would free up a button for something else... or maybe that button becomes the 'hot button' whatever you select in your equipment menu as hot anytime you hit that button you auto deploy/use that device and return back to previous weapon. BTW there was a smart bomb module on the market, people raged and it was removed. Smart bomb? As an explosive enthusiast, I'm intrigued- tell me more... Original descriptor stated that upon death the 'smart bomb' would utilize the suit's reactor and go critical. I guess the smart part would be turning a reactor into a weapon in 3 seconds flat. Eve Online version of the same named weapon utilizes the shield's shields as a means of emission.
It sounds like what Brink had, called a Cortex Bomb.
As a guy was bleeding out,if you got too close,he could detonate an explosive that was implanted in his head.Worked wonders against those that were too hasty to bleed fallen enemies out.
