Most Maps are 600 - 700 meter range from one side to another (1/2 - 3/4 mile)
Mercs can WALK an average of 5 m/sec (assault)... they can WALK from one side of the map to the other and back in about 4 minutes. (Sprinting is even faster)
That's a 4 minute mile WALKING! Olympic runners have trouble running a mile in 4 minutes and they're trained runners wearing nothing but lightweight sneakers and shorts. A Merc wearing full Combat gear shouldn't be able to WALK that fast.
I've heard that these Clones are supposed to be some kind of 7 foot tall "Avatar" like beings, but Olympic sprinters are mostly in the 6 1/2 foot range ... so pretty close ... being 6 inches taller and alien can't make Clones that much faster.
The animations and apparent movement (ie. the scenery passing by) seem to be right for both walking and running, but the amount of distance covered is way off.
CCP needs to change the current distances so that what is currently 1 Meter should become 2 or 3 meters. This would make the maps seem to be as large as they are supposed to be (1200 - 2100 meters across) and would make the use of LAV's and Dropships for transport more of a Necessity than a Novelty as walking or sprinting to the objectives would take minutes instead of seconds.
This would open up whole new styles of gameplay and strategy with vehicles playing an important role.
It would also allow for CCP to give the Weapons the Proper Ranges they should have instead of the ridiculously short ranges they have now, without changing the balance or feel of the game, being doubled or tripled along with the map scaling.
For example: the Assault Rifle would change from its ridiculous range of 38m Optimal - 65m Effective - 250m Absolute to a more believable (3x ) 114m Optimal - 195m Effective - 750m Absolute.
And this would have no effect on Gunplay as its the scaling that's being changed across the board. (movement and vehicles would of course be affected with scaling change, but I think for the better) |

You didn't know? Your clone is about 6 meters tall.
1 meter in this game is actually about 1 foot. |

Hence the need to triple Map Scaling ... so what is now 3 meters will become, effectively, 1 meter (or about 3 feet) |

Cloned Mercenaries bodies are militarily designed however, preconditioned enhanced muscles from inspired elsewhere and different attachment areas, titanium skeletons, Probably a highly efficient lungs and metabolism for lower and much more hostile atmospheric environments. And we're heads and shoulders taller than most other humans so that puts us anywhere from 7.5-8 ft
As for the scale an unreal 3 hobby or real dev would be able to explain the unit conversion better but its pretty consistent that x unreal units = y real world units.
Verses many other shooters however I have to say our maps are freakishly large. Planetside 2 has only 3 map tiles that comes close to rivaling ours, Biolab, Tech Plant and Amp Station. Most of their map tiles are no bigger than our warehouses on line harvest. Battlefield is the only one worth comparing sizes with in my opinion.
but some of our battlefields are almost larger than one other game's entire map collection combined at its launch just about. |

Listen to your footsteps when you walk or sprint. Same speed. You'll also hear about 4 steps for what you would see as a single stride. Sounds like shuffled elderly sprinting. |

Probably the same way you biomass all that electronic plug-in Matrix-esque crap that the Pod pilots have too.
Magic! Sci-Fi magic, same tech as shields... Same reason why you can't send machinery back in time but Terminators strangely are okay.

I thought everyone already realized that CCP isn't good at math.It was evident when they said that the locust grenades had a 6 meter spash damage, but people weren't taking damage when they were 5 ft away.
6 meters=18 ft in the real world. |

There is no reason for anyone to be converting to feet, inches or miles..... keep it metric and the maths is easier. But on topic, not sure aboutt running speed and such (seeing as though we are kind of super clones) but I do find the distances to objects and explosions ect hard to judge, what I think looks like a metre or two in game, is mesured as 2 or3. I guess this makes sense if we are almost 2.5 mtrs tall. |

Obviously the OP has never notice the fusion reactor on the back of their suit. Nor in the back of all Merc suits. That powers the walking and sprinting speeds. Sprinting is described as using more energy from the power pack and raises the signature of the suit in question.
Remember, this is a video game. Not an armored space suit simulator. Video. Game. |

Dafuq?!?
Normally I don't mind your posts but this is all kinds of stupid. I won't even bother to address the PS2 idiocy but do you really think this? Do you really think 200 yards of open, flat ground of game-start running boredom between initial spawn and null cannon section is actually "map content"? I don't know what to say. |
