Mercs can WALK an average of 5 m/sec (assault)... they can WALK from one side of the map to the other and back in about 4 minutes. (Sprinting is even faster)
That's a 4 minute mile WALKING! Olympic runners have trouble running a mile in 4 minutes and they're trained runners wearing nothing but lightweight sneakers and shorts. A Merc wearing full Combat gear shouldn't be able to WALK that fast. (yeah, I know, Powered Suits .. but still WALKING at Olympic RUNNING speeds?)
I've heard that these Clones are supposed to be some kind of 7 foot tall "Avatar" like beings, but Olympic sprinters are mostly in the 6 1/2 foot range ... so pretty close ... being 6 inches taller and alien can't make Clones that much faster.
The animations and apparent movement (ie. the scenery passing by) seem to be right for both walking and running, but the amount of distance covered is way off.
CCP needs to change the current distances so that what is currently 1 Meter should become 3 meters. This would make the maps seem to be as large as they are supposed to be (1800 - 2100 meters across) and would make the use of LAV's and Dropships for transport more of a Necessity than a Novelty, as walking or sprinting to the objectives would take minutes instead of seconds.
This would open up whole new styles of gameplay and strategy with vehicles playing an important role.
It would also allow for CCP to give the Weapons the Proper Ranges they should have instead of the ridiculously short ranges they have now, without changing the balance or feel of the game, being tripled along with the map scaling.
For example: the Assault Rifle would change from its ridiculous range of 38m Optimal - 65m Effective - 250m Absolute to a more believable (3x ) 114m Optimal - 195m Effective - 750m Absolute.
(I was in the US ARMY here on Earth and these ranges are about right for Earth Type Assault Rifles)
And this would have no effect on Gunplay as its the scaling that's being changed across the board. (movement and vehicles would of course be affected with scaling change, but I think for the better)
