Feel free to share your list.
1. Every session is completely different. Sometimes I play matches and every one is a landslide victory or crushing defeat because of the spawning. I don't know if it is because of faulty game mechanics, or intentional, but I actually like it. It makes you think overall, and longer term about your character's development. The never knowing what to expect thing is usually something I look forward to in DUST. I play CoD, MoH, or BF3 and I play the same way match after match because the game is easy to predict and figure out, it gets stale. So far, DUST isn't.
2. The skills are actually quite balanced. Skills that assist good players (i.e.- weapon upgrading) take enormous amounts of SP, thus leveling the playing field more. DUST makes it more apparent that you should play a role on your team, bit just be another drone with the same abilities as everyone else. You can give support, man vehicles, specialize in something ultra-specific, or be a killing machine. You can be self-centered, or team helpful all based on what skills you specialize into. Great concept that seems to have been pulled off in DUST.
3. The live action lobby/menus. Sure, they are a cause of a lot of malfunctions in the game, but when I first downloaded DUST and saw my character standing in his dorm, I was like WTF is this? Way cooler than just menus. It puts you more into the game I think. Granted you can just bring up the neocom (which I often do), but the live action thing is just really neat.
4. CHAOS! DUST matches can be utter eff-ing chaos! And LOVE that. It reminds me of MW2 when 8 killstreaks were in the air, and nades were flying and you had to really focus in order to be successful. DUST can have tanks, airships, larger enemy teams, and just a mix of orange and blue going nuts on the screen. I like that a lot.
5. Team playing option. I've always usually ran solo while playing FPS. (Hence is why I'm still part of a default corporation), but I've always been about working as a team and getting the WIN. I can do that in DUST if I want, or join a squad, or still be a solo team player. I carry a repair tool at all times now. I go for the most kills possible but still heal my teammates(great method to build WP btw).
6. KILLING AURUM players. To be honest, if i wasn't part of the beta and didn't 5million SP to start Uprising with, I would have quit DUST, because the grind is unrealistically feasible. But killing AURUM players with my standard DSes is the best reward to me in this game. Some moron who spent more money than the game would be worth on their character just to die by me is a great feeling. Its cold-hearted, I know.
7. Not a big one, but to some people it is. The leveling up(the "grind") of it. I know some people who only play games like CoD simply for the leveling up, once they hit max prestige, the game gets old in a hurry to them. DUST's grind is pretty much infinite. Truth be told, I'm almost to the end of what I really want to level up as far as skills in this game. So the grind aspect will be coming to end soon enough, but going back to reason 1, it won't get stale and repetitive like other FPSes. Maybe someday I'll branch off into a different DS, like Heavy or something. But I'm happy where I'm at. I only wish I didn't use any SP in shotguns in this game, as they are unrewarding for me.
As soon as i lowered my expectation of CCP and this game in general, I enjoy it far more. Simple as focusing on the positives, no matter how few of them there may be. |

The kind of moments you would expect to see in a game trailer, where a minute later you say "wow, that really just happened." Best part is, many of those moments were shared moments that came about as a result of good teamwork.
No doubt! I watch the DUST trailers, and I see that the Cinematic stuff has actually happen in DUST. Like a wall of HMG Clones leveling the other team with explosions going off and things fly over head... that sh!t actually happens in DUST, not just in cut scenes |

Why are landslide victories fun? I absolutely loathe them when one team gets red-lined. Landslide team balance is annoying in public matches. There should be an option to play with people in squads and people who solo and make only squads for the duration of the match. When I play with my corp and we are winning by a landslide either the enemy got pushed to the red-line or they are completely pushed to 1 letter and our MMC has barely taken damage the game becomes completely boring. I make my dude run somewhere, sit, and go do something else like get something to eat or switch to tv.
When either team gets red-lined my attention to the game is diminished. Back in closed beta when the enemy got red-lined I'd try and help the losing team by driving my decked out Sagaris inside their spawn area and let them have it. Just to put some action back in the rest of the map.
I like matches that go down to the wire mostly. But sometimes, the game sets you up to basically get slaughtered. reminding you that there are times where no matter what you do, a war can't go your way every time. You surrender a lot of control, which keeps the game interesting. When a match starts its up to me to figure out analyze the situation, and get the best position. Battling out of an impossible situation can be rewarding and challenging. I don't mind losing, because eventually you acquire a death, or have a sh!tty game.
Its not fun being on the losing end of a landslide, but it makes you rethink and rebuild. |
