It's actually not so bad when used right... It's just an incredibly unintuitive weapon and people who pick it up are given no real direction in it's use.
Hitting at 50m or below? You're doing a third of your full damage. At 65m-85m or so? Sweet spot, now people are melting as you're doing 100% damage. 95m? Haha, you're now doing 10% damage.
So... short to medium range, terrible. At the precise 70 to 80 metre mark, wonderful. Ten metres beyond that? You're now hitting for bugger all damage. This means most find that at short range it's awful, at long range apparently also awful.
If the laser actually vanished entirely at the point it's damage nosedives it would be far easier for people to pick up and learn. |

Lasers deserved their nerf. Swiping across someone with a Viziam and taking nearly half their HP was ridiculous. I'll agree they are underpowered but that's fine. Better than the old build laser rifles. Besides, most corny trolls who can't play moved on to Flaylock pistols anyways. I guess it'd be ok if they were slightly stronger against armor, but only at the cost of reduced shield damage. Otherwise they'd be a troll weapon again. They still do nasty shield damage though. |

I tried the Burnstock earlier today after reading some posts mentioning the LR to be fine. It sucked as a weapon still. With 2 complex dmg mods, I hardly caused any damage and the players were able to move so fast while the large iron sight blocked them and they could easily escape my laser. It would over heat before enough damage was even done.

The Laser Rifle has been outclassed by the Scrambler Rifle. It no longer has the exclusivity of Shield damage bonus on Light Weapons. The removal of Sharpshooter skill hurt it the most, far more than fixing the damage problem. Range and DPS are better on the Scrambler Rifles, why bother using the Laser when all it does is singe armor and tell everyone where you are? |

Minmatar assault suit with 2 enhanced damage mods and the rawspark viziam, realized the only thing it has is range and 'shots' before overheat, no reason to skill it as it does same damage across the board, however the range is good. That alone as an incentive to skill it? I don't think so. |

I've got an alt I specced into lasers because they are fun to use even if they aren't terribly comparative. I think if the aim assist is as good as the dev blog says it will go a long way to helping the laser, but I do feel like they need another 20-50m more range. They are great across the street but I would like it to be the half way point between a sniper rifle and a scrambler rifle. Right now the scrambler reaches just as far and does more damage because it does all the damage up front while the laser requires you to track. |

The laser rifle deals out more damage exponentially the longer you hold the trigger, the Viziam allows you to hold the trigger longer before overheating which equates to a lot more damage output towards the end right before you overheat.
You can literally swipe the laser across the map (if preheated) and take out all the shields and maybe kill a couple people. If you focus on anyone person they will be dead in no time. The laser rifle is fine, it does not need a buff. |

You do realize that the majority of people basically waste an entire clip of ammo when using the AR since they're just spraying and praying especially when in cqc. Besides I bet why most people think the laser sucks is because either they don't know how to use it or they can't aim for **** so they blame the gun. The gun doesn't suck in fact when you know what you're doing you can kill faster than assault rifles, scramblers, and even the tac. Hell I've gone toe to toe against two people using the AR thinking they could ambush me. There are really only two things that I think need to change with the laser and that's the iron sights and the feedback damage when you overheat. |

I'll give it a Carthum is a nasty weapon, but most laser rifle users aren't skilled enough in short range combat to use them effectively. By the time you get to pistol range, the laser rifle is mostly useless by then. Also, the lack of slots on a Commando suit presents some defensive issues, especially against assault rifles. |

I use it sometimes on certain maps because its a alot of fun and in my commando suit i can pull out AR when people decide to CQC me. It may not be as effective as the mass driver or the AR, but its a good support weapon. |

I loved the lazer rifle before...and I can aim BTW. I can count on one hand how many times I've been killed with a lazer rifle since uprising. I would love to see how it would do now with the old sights and no sharpshooter range bonus. I hate the new scope also. It's difficult to tell that you are actually firing. It needs some love.

I've been using the LR with my alt for the last couple of days.
I have LR skill lvl5 and prof lvl3. I use an ADV Amarr Assault suit with 2 ADV damage mods and the ELM-7 LR usually. The LR is kinda usable with this setup.
I think if LRs get their red dot sight they might be fairly useful though personally I think they could need a few more things:
- buff the range of the LR to the level of the Duvolle Tac AR (+11m or so?)
I'd guess the LR is intended to be a long range area denial weapon or something like that? At least that's what I am using it for. I stay back and harrass the enemy when they try to advance and the LR is kinda good for that pupose. Though its low range makes it hard to stay out of an AR's range.
The mechanics of the LR are very interesting but they need a lot of skill to master and I think this is the main reason why so few people use the LR. You have to stay out of the ARs optimal range because the LR does not stand a chance against an AR. You have to be very good at aiming because usually your targets are far away and strafing very fast. You have to manage the heat build-up or the LR will
- do very low damage
- deal a massive amount of damage to yourself
- overheat before you could use even half of your clip
- overheat and you'll be unable to shoot, reload, sprint and switch weapon!
And just for convenience:
- add a heat build-up bar to the crosshair
maybe?
As it stands the LR has more drawbacks than advantages. I do not want the LR to be the face melting nightmare it was in Chromosome, but I want it to be effective in its intended role. With the LR you do not need to do a massive amount of damage because your targets should be quite far away from you anyway. But the LR's many drawbacks have to become manageable for more people if we want to see it used more often.
Another thing I'm not quite sure about is the fact that at the moment I don't think the LR will be a viable weapon for any other suits but the Amarr Assault. I don't know if this is intended and if it is a good thing. On the one hand it is good because it makes the suits more diverse and gives them some roles they are better in than other suits. On the other hand though it again limits the usefulness of the LR as it is very hard to use it effectively with any other suit. Not to mention Logi suits that don't have a sidearm slot.
TL;DR
- add red dot sight
- buff range
- buff heat build-up time

I use an ADV Amarr Assault suit with 2 ADV damage mods and the ELM-7 LR usually. The LR is kinda usable with this setup. I think if LRs get their red dot sight they might be fairly useful though personally I think they could need a few more things:
- buff the range of the LR to the level of the Duvolle Tac AR (+11m or so?)
I'd guess the LR is intended to be a long range area denial weapon or something like that? At least that's what I am using it for. I stay back and harrass the enemy when they try to advance and the LR is kinda good for that pupose. Though its low range makes it hard to stay out of an AR's range. The mechanics of the LR are very interesting but they need a lot of skill to master and I think this is the main reason why so few people use the LR. You have to stay out of the ARs optimal range because the LR does not stand a chance against an AR. You have to be very good at aiming because usually your targets are far away and strafing very fast. You have to manage the heat build-up or the LR will
- do very low damage
- deal a massive amount of damage to yourself
- overheat before you could use even half of your clip
- overheat and you'll be unable to shoot, reload, sprint and switch weapon!
As it stands the LR has more drawbacks than advantages. I do not want the LR to be the face melting nightmare it was in Chromosome, but I want it to be effective in its intended role. With the LR you do not need to do a massive amount of damage because your targets should be quite far away from you anyway. But the LR's many drawbacks have to become manageable for more people if we want to see it used more often. Another thing I'm not quite sure about is the fact that at the moment I don't think the LR will be a viable weapon for any other suits but the Amarr Assault. I don't know if this is intended and if it is a good thing. On the one hand it is good because it makes the suits more diverse and gives them some roles they are better in than other suits. On the other hand though it again limits the usefulness of the LR as it is very hard to use it effectively with any other suit. Not to mention Logi suits that don't have a sidearm slot. TL;DR
- add red dot sight
- buff range
- buff heat build-up time
Current heat build up time is fine if it was more it would again be an OP weapon....
Also you don't seem to know what you are talking about or you would know that the LR now is damn good gun. |

I think the MCC floor should 'Drop out' spitting everyone in there onto the ground.
Or - the MCC spawn should be a paradrop style - so if you choose to spawn on the MCC, when you do start the game - you're already in free fall.
This would stop those wretched MCC AFK'ers - why do you need to be inside the MCC anyway?? especially since you can't shoot out of it any more.. (I mean defensibly - when you're red lined you can FG tanks off your spawn area.. not ****ing MCC snipers..) |

Well, obviously not or why do you think so few people actually use the LR? I have the feeling you are in the wrong thread. They were jaded by the LR performance after uprising dropped. Have they tried it in the last few weeks probably not, few people come out of the AR shell.....
The gun absolutely wrecks just about every dropsuit around.... however unlike Chromo Lasers you cannot sweep single or multiple targets, however concentrated fire on one target for a couple of seconds will always drop them no matter what.
In all honesty I think most people who are QQing or begging for a laser nerf probably haven't put enough time or SP into the weapon to adequately comment on it. |

So, your assumption is that out of the thousands of people playing this game most people don't use the LR because they are too lazy to try it out or too stupid to use it? That is pretty bold and ignorant, tbh.
If it is such a great gun as you make it sound like (and I too don't think it is that bad), then we have to find out the real reason why so few people use it and changing people is not a viable option for obvious reasons. If we want to see the LR more frequently we have to change something so people actually want to use it.
Stating that everybody, who wants to change this or that about the LR, just does not know **** about the LR won't help increasing the number of people using it at all. |
