So the finest minds of IRC has been working away and have decided the idea that a borderlands style levelling system would be ideal, namely that what you use you level up. So using a gallente assault nets you points in gallente assault but nothing else, and the same with all the weapons. As for CCP making money I personally think some kind of sp token could be used. An sp token would give you a lump of sp that you could put into any skill you want, helping you reduce the grind but not making any thing aurum only.

To be truthful, this is how I thought it worked when I first started playing the beta way back when. And then I'd see "Assault Rifle +10" pop up on the center of my screen and it only reaffirmed that belief. Then I learned that was only me getting ammo
I agree though, it would be awesome if using a certain item would level it up, both actively by using it and passively by simply having it on your current fit. However that would be a massive rework of the skill point system and would upset a ton of people who already accrued millions of SP. Should have been suggested back in closed beta (don't get me wrong, I would still be in favor of them overhauling everything right now for this. I'm just saying its never going to happen). |

Meanwhile if Dust is doing fine a year down the line no one is going to resurrect this thread and say "I told you so" to you.
Again I agree with you, but just how exactly do you plan for CCP to go about implementing something like this given the current state? |

Again I agree with you, but just how exactly do you plan for CCP to go about implementing something like this given the current state? Beers mentioned something about converting current SP into tokens, you could do something like that but I would make it so theres a high conversion rate, allowing those with more sp to get more tokens to spend initially, once the conversion from the old system to the new is done, it's like I outlined above. |

I don't know... This doesn't seem what... Kosher?
I mean. It could work, but it doesn't seem very 'New Eden-ish' is all.
Also, I'd like the 'finest minds of IRC's' input on what you think is a good structure for the skill tree in my think tank thread. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=97202
There are some problems with the Dropsuit Operation and Weaponry trees in particular that need attention, and I'm trying to pull as many "experts" together to come up with 'high bang for buck' solutions.
Cheers. |

I only see one problem and that's no lifers getting everything in one month. |

As it is the no lifers just spend craploads of ISK on boosters. If we made each level sp intensive enough it should prevent that though. I'm thinking of the difference between tiers being substantial, like lv1 being 20 games, then lv2 being 40 games and so on, numbers are just kinda made up but you get the idea. |

Changing the leveling system would probably require a reset at this point.
It would make so much more sense to do it this way though.
You could even keep the passive sp and just apply it to a skill like you do in eve... you just get usage based bonuses on top of it.
Active and passive boosters could be exactly the same as they are now pretty much... active gives you more bonus to each item through usage and passive gives you more passive sp. |

Maintaining similar caps as they have now would help keep the 'no lifers' from getting everything in a month as well as potentially encourage more variance in weapon usage. Say if each category had it's own weekly soft cap...Thus encouraging people to possibly cap multiple weapons/equipment/suits a week.
My understanding of this suggestion is something like everything you have equipped gets an 'active' percentage of the WP earned while you're wearing/driving it. Active SP is automatically spent in appropriate fields as it's gained...while passive points accrue and are spent on whatever you want even if it hasn't been used?
I like the idea if caps and passives are still involved...but involving caps, knowing when caps cap, and determining how active points are spent sounds a lil tricky. Removing caps and passives would make it feel either more grindy than it does now-or too easy imo. |

Why not just go to fully passive SP already? This is going to kill a lot of people that don't have the time to play consistently. |
