SP shouldn't be the point of this game. SP is a granular leveling mechanic which is there as a content release valve. Proposing that new players with more SP is like proposing new players in WOW should start at level 5.
Another thing is the Skill tree. Because it lacks fundamental structure, a new player with 5 million SP is very liable to spending it all in one place: after all, they still only get 250k ISK, enough for about 3-4 low tier skill books.
Instead, propose accelerated SP gain for new players until a certain level; I'd say 1.6 million SP. A 2x rate on both passive and active is enough, though I think SP gain in general should be moved more towards passive, with active playing a smaller role. Incidentally, the active SP cap should be rolling, and without a soft cap (again, SP gain should never be the primary point of playing the game).
This retains the qualities of the content release valve, and doesn't give the player more SP than he/she knows what to do with. |

1) There should be a militia version of EVERY SINGLE gun and dropsuit, so people can actually try these things before they invest blindly.
2) There should be militia only (or maybe STD only) High Sec contracts available. Sort of like the Academy, but anyone with a viable suit would be allowed into these low priority areas. This would establish a permanent "practice" arena. Newbros and Vets would still go head to head, but they would be artificially corrected to have the same level of gear. Newbros can learn tactics while Vets develop new tactics.
3) Low Sec and Null Sec need to offer high end content, to draw away the stompers. Heavy EVE ties in this area. 5 to 10mil minimum SP to gain clearance.
1) I think a better solution would be changing how the Skill Tree unlocks new content. Require players to diversify to a certain extent before they can specialize. This could manifest itself as the skill Sidearm Operation unlocking all Standard level sidearms. The player can play around with those to determine which he/she likes best. Then the player can invest into the specialization skills to gain access to higher level weapons. Establishing a sense of progress through the skill tree would do wonderful things for the meta. Less players sticking to one thing they invested all their SP into, more players using things they need to skill through to get to their desired specialization; more players using what they feel is appropriate for the given situation when their specialization is at a disadvantage.
2) There was a proposal somewhere to limit what players could use in a match by the security status of a system.
3) No need for clearance for the same reason as PC not needing it; the best players naturally agglomerate where the most rewarding features are present. Agree on the high end content though. |
