If it was buffed anymore then it would be OP.
The because we are dealing with CCP here they will nerf it into oblivion and it will be months until the LR is even usable. |

I know it got a range buff, but if they scaled the heat build up a bit better and took of the iron sight, the laser would be in a good place. CCP seems to have PTSD over Dropships and Missile turrets in closed beta, I don't want to see the laser go that route. |

Well before I say anything about them lets just say I'm an amarrian loyalist, running with and Amarrian RP corp who only use Amarrian things, and basically are adopting a battle strategy akin to what we imagine true amarrians would use in battle.....
The gun is really nice, very good for area denial, and with damage mods its a very potent weapon. however as before it does light you up like a Christmas tree, you cant shoot **** up close, and you'll score mostly assists over true kills.....
but its the coolest and most entertaining weapon in this game and puts IMO the MD and Flaylock to shame since they never get anywhere near my anymore. |

I usually feel obliged to rush to all laser rifle threads to defend it, but it seems Adamance has already stated all my views. Even with the iron sight, it may sound crazy but I prefer that over how it was in Chromosome. |

I personally would like to see three variants on the laser rifle, all that use different methods for ADS.
A close range version that has no sights, so ADS is like it was in Chromosome. The beam is faster and base damage is higher, also overheats quicker. It would be an alternative to say the shotgun.
A mid range version which would be identical to what we have now.
And a long range version which would have an actual scope and perhaps a thinner beam and less base damage but also less heat build up. It would be an alternative for something like the sniper rifle.

I got some free Laser Rifles and have been using them mainly to mess with people in matches we are leading fairly well. Despite the weakness of the weapon it still seems to annoy players fairly easily. The range makes it the perfect "fly buzzing around your ear". LOL
Usually when the main bulk of my team is pushing an objective, I will move on the flank and find some decent cover. Then as enemies are focused on the threat to the front I start "tickling" them with the stupid Laser Rifle. Of course, many players will mistakenly refocus their attention in my direction or even funnier...since the weapon's beam can lead them directly to my position...they will actually move off of their position just to come after me, just like a cat chasing a laser pointer
This leaves their buddies to fend for themselves against the frontal assault (whoops!). I think the next thing I need to do is skill into Remote Explosives so when they get halfway to my position I can give them a real surprise.
Ah well, but other than this bit of fun, I have no real use for the Laser since 'Uprising". |

Its a useful tool for baiting people into your RE traps. everybody sees the beam and knows exactly where to rush. Boom. Inside its optimum the damage is OK. 60-80m if you can keep your enemy's inside that kill box the gun can be quite good.
I think just increasing that optimum would add a bit more versatility to it without making it ultra deadly. 30m-80m. That way you still are crap inside an AR's optimal , but you can now get off that roof and do something useful from time to time.
They did remove the glare, so if aiming was your reason for dropping it before, try it again, headshots are pretty easy to get.
My only current gripe: Explosives are insta popping armor tanking mercs. If that is by design then the laser needs to be insta popping sheild tankers again. there is your fix to the flay-contact-driver right there.
it was never really OP in chromo, all we had were shield tanking suits so everybody was countered by the laser.

I find it abhorrent how slow the aim movement is when you are looking down the sights. Its ridiculous, especially with the new strafing its very hard to keep on top of someone with that laser.

Is it just me or does your ads speed slow down when you use armor plates? I like to spawn in first with my adv elm suit, get down uplinks and ammo (R) in my laser platforms. When I die I bring in my big gun, and I usually stack a few complex plates on it. Seems like the aiming changes.
I would love to see some variants, I'm pretty solid at tracking from the hip in closer ranges, it feels awesome. But does 0 dmg.
Does any body know how to calculate the dmg? I'm thinking it's something like. Base dmg x time holding beam^2 |

Perhaps you're right, mine is at 0/0 because I use DS3 and hip aiming is crazy fast even with those values.

Yes basic armor plates affect movement, which affect turn speed. It's why I'll ve shield tanking my Amarr Assault, with a couple of regulators. It helps a lot when the laser overheats.
The farther you are the more damage the laser does up to 80m which is maximum optimal range. Damage is also calculated by continuous fire. I don't know exactly the equation. Thing you should know is to get that Amarr Assault skill to lvl 5 asap, so that you do more damage before it hits overheat.

I use a gal logi with it. The amarr bonus, should be a bonus not a req. Range tested on a turret is 65-85 with a pretty sharp falloff in both directions. I specced gal so I could have large armor numbers. I have yet to lose a 1v1 against other lasers. It just doesn't happen often enough. This was my thought process when uprising hit. I thought my biggest enemy would have been other lasers. Oops.
I also have a scout+adv basic frame that I pull out in situations/maps where the side arm useful. Otherwise I use RE's
I would love to see damage numbers. What is it's potential dmg per cycle. Figuring it out in combat is difficult because it is so inconsistent. Hard to test. |
