Old saying, if it aint broke don't fix it. Isn't that what lead Medal of Honor getting stomped out of existence almost though?
Mainly its because the team that used to develop the MOH games had a big falling out with EA so they left and founded Infinity Ward and created COD MW 2 which was a breakout hit, they got screwed by Activision and were fired for insisting they get the bonuses they were entitled to.
They got wise and though were looking to take a long break when the publishers came knocking they made sure that their one major demand was met which was whatever IP they produce they would own the outright rights to it in the end only THQ and EA were willing to meet them and fortunately for everyone they chose to go back to EA.
That company is Respawn and their game is Titanfall.
They took the core concepts of COD in terms of progression but added new twists and centered it around new gameplay and since they didnt have the time to create their own engine they borrowed from one of the best engines around (Valve) and started getting into that engine to make it work with what they know how to do best and they made it.
The main point is first just like the change in hollywood where the production studios had an iron grip on the actors to that dynamic changing the other way so too are developers learning that they are the talent and the publishers are the money, let the talent do its job and let the money do its job without interference, yes its a risk but id much rather put my trust on game devs over publishers.
Naughty Dog is another example they treat the devs like the talent they are and they make incredible games.
In the end however developers need to be able to make the creative decisions not based on what marketing and PR want them to but what they want to. CCP is trying to create an new genre but they are also turning the most core elements and using the wrong ones for an FPS. They work for an MMO but they are using the worst parts of an MMO.
For the record long tedious grinds for character development IS NOT MMO, IT IS RPG. Moreover there is no rule stating that long progresion grinds are better than short ones for the longevity for the game,
Progression =/= Content, Content=Content and CCP understood this early on, but the so called hardcore MMO(EVEtards) insist the game will be better and last longer if the progression system is longer, it is tacitly saying that there is nothing else to do in this game then progress your character. Moreover in FPS world if you cant be playing competitively(end game or higher level matches) within a short duration (1 month) then it will not work with that community.
The SP CAP in addition to low content and abysmal core FPS mechanics have utterly crippled this game. The only ones who still find this enjoyable are the casual and noncompetitive players who are perfectly happy at their success in having killed someone and ending up on the upper half of the end game leaderboard. |

I'm sure they meant ten years after release ;) lol, good luck with this game being viable 10 months after release Is it even viable now? Player counts are trending down, there doesn't seem to be any meaningful content due for the next couple of months, and the fixes are coming slow and with their own problems. How few players does Dust need to be called a flop? Well since it was 5000 last time we could see, at the rate it dropped (4000 in 2 weeks from 9000), that'd put it somewhere around 1500-3000 right now. When people stop buying Aurum and logging in and the numbers drop below 1000, maybe they'll take notice as to how all of their hardcore playerbase left and it's just clueless noobs that dont have the patience to understand this stupid game. The EvE API log in tracker has dust at a pretty steady 4600-4800 actually... on weekends at least. However... whats more interesting is looking at the newborn player chart. It says over 9000 people per week are making new dust accounts, and yet the player numbers never increase. I find that very interesting myself... http://eve-offline.net/?server=dust
Blame the IMPS, we go through a lot Alts to keep posting on the forums, seriously i think at one point 70% of the 200 players we had had multiple account bans cause you know we are monitored like hawks |

I'm obviously trolling this thread because I'm sick of people writing novel-sized forum posts about why they hate this game, yet continue to play it. This topic is a dead horse that has been beaten beyond recognition and I have absolutely no desire to "argue the topic". I would much prefer that people just STFU or HTFU. Don't like the game and don't think it will ever succeed? STOP PLAYING.
We have stopped playing, the in game client but WE WILL NEVER STOP PLAYING THE REAL GAME.
Didnt anyone tell you, you dont play dust on a PS3 you play it like EVE, ON THE FORUMS. |
