WP is unrelated to SP. WP is related to ISK. SP, you gain by the second that you're in the match; hence those bastard AFK MCC campers I'd love to be able to push to a splattery doom.
I run standard or advanced gear versus proto as a matter of course (as a scout, as well). Sometimes there's not a lot you can do, but ambush tactics, concentrated fire, and the occasional nasty trap do a lot to level the playing field. Remote explosives are a godsend: 1500 explosive damage in a 5 meter radius at the push of a button. Even a basic RE can wipe a squad out, but I recommend the Advanced version for combat use (quicker to arm).
As an aside, explosive damage means never having to watch 'em receive a needle and get back up.
Losing proto suits hurts, a lot. If they're using proto gear to steamroll your team, discourage that behavior: do everything in your power to make them pay in blood and ISK. |

So are you guys really saying that bad performance on the battlefield has no effect on SP? So I can score 1/10, get 50 WP points and still make above 2000 SP? Frankly that doesn't make any sense.

It has some effect, but not as much as it needs to. You get some SP based on what your WP for the match is, the rest is just passive for being present in the battle (that is, not on the Neocom screen waiting to respawn.) All else being equal, a long match will give you more SP than a short one. Performance affects ISK a lot more-- the better you do in the battle, the more ISK you make from it, although what the enemy is using affects this as well. |

They already have a ranking system in place with meta levels. Why not just us it? This way you can enter games set to your gears level. |

That's not accurate. The majority of your "active" SP is earned simply by being in a match. 5 SP per second in fact, while you earn a measly 1 SP per WP. CCP does this precisely for you, the beginner. A 15 minute match yields 4,500 SP without firing a shot or hacking a single objective. If you do exceptional and earn 1k WPs you get 5,500 SP, not a huge difference. CCP does this to greatly diminish the difference in progression speed between high and low WP earners (no matter the reason) so nobody sprints too far ahead or gets left behind. It's important enough to them that they are willing to put up with AFK play to keep it. Hmm?
I get 3k SP per match all the time. I don't quite understand where you got 5 sp a sec from.
But besides the point, we play DUST to shoot faceless enemies, and collect tears.
It's just not fun to get crushed and brutally slaughtered 10 times in an attempt to kill one protosuit, people in their mind start thinking that the game is imbalanced, especially in the "Safe" zone of DUST. Instant battles are essentially the High sec of DUST, and proto is similar to the Capitals of DUST, something we aspire to have, and look up to.
And if you want a lore reason, CONCORD wants to test every bit of combat tech so, since proto hasn't been safety/impact/ROE certified, so TACNET locks any gear which it doesn't have an archive of. |

Obviously tier based multiplayer is thr best option. Just have matches with max metalevels on any item in a suit. The only downside is that there would need to be a reason for people to play the proto version cause they will almost certainly lose ISK with the current payouts.
If he playerbase can sustain it that is the best solution I can tbink of. |

Vell0cet wrote:There is a simple solution to this: make Proto suits 5x to 10x more expensive. People can run whatever they want, but it will be unsustainable to run Proto suits in pub matches for very long. This is similar to how Eve works. It's a sandbox and people can run what they want, but it's not financially sustainable to suicide gank high-sec miners in billion ISK ships. No! Scout proto gets what , one more slot for 60 hp more shields at the cost of 60000+ Make scout suits free or leave them in the academy till they have 5 million sp |

So this is a recent change? Good to hear. I haven't played for a while but I will be soon. |
