They are working on something to give the game better matchmaking so you'll be less likely to be horribly outclassed by the enemy team, full of squads in Prototype gear. It probably won't be as simple as 'No prototype gear in public matches,' but it should alleviate the issue with it somewhat.
Most folks on the forums will tell you 'Adapt or die' or to HTFU, and truthfully, that's all you can do right now. Just know that pretty much everyone's been on the receiving end of a protostomp or 12. Pretty much all you can do about it is stick with a squad and know when to run. Protos aren't indestructible-- they're harder to kill than most people, but it's not uncommon to see them drop from a militia weapon.
Generally, I'll only wear my Prototype suit on the first life of a match and drop down to Standard if I die. Partly 'cause those things are expensive, partly because I know how bad it sucks to get one shotted by someone who's been playing the game two or three months longer than you.
EDIT: As for them not belonging in public matches-- remember, folks who use prototype suits took their lumps and earned the right to do so. Granted, a lot of them played in the beta, but six months from now even that won't be justification. And again, those suits are really expensive. Mine's not even complete and costs about 133,000 ISK. |

It's actually about right. and gets highly exploited by people who claim that the game sucks, but they want to be competitive in said sucky game. Keep in mind most matches--Ambushes and Skirmishes anyway-- rarely go for a full 15 minutes. |

Krixus Flux wrote:So are you guys really saying that bad performance on the battlefield has no effect on SP? So I can score 1/10, get 50 WP points and still make above 2000 SP? Frankly that doesn't make any sense.
It has some effect, but not as much as it needs to. You get some SP based on what your WP for the match is, the rest is just passive for being present in the battle (that is, not on the Neocom screen waiting to respawn.) All else being equal, a long match will give you more SP than a short one. Performance affects ISK a lot more-- the better you do in the battle, the more ISK you make from it, although what the enemy is using affects this as well. |
