Death screen shows total damage but onscreen is boom dead. No time to react. I try to liftoff into the red on skirmish but same result. After first minute or so AB is needed and some luck just to call in dropship and get into the air. Hugging the red is ineffective.
If I spend too much time at maximum height as to avoid said death, a bug occurs where I am hit for 57k damage and die instantly. Yep.
I have tried many alts flying all of the dropships. There are a few ways to fit it. Logi tank, Afterburner GTFO, or LAVmince AKA Assault. None of them are successful. If you go for tank, you die from maximum height death. If you go for AB, you cannot get out in time against the ubertracking playerturrets. If you go assault. LOL assault. Superfunhappyride all aboard for pointless fit.
All I'm saying is: It's impossible to fly Dropships. Between the ground offence, zero counter measures and glitchtastic gameplay, I just have to give up playing. I really want it to be playable but I've exhaunted all my options and I'm afraid it isn't achievable to fulfil the role whatsoever.
Umm, you are doing it wrong? I can get 40+ kills with my dropship.
Yes, you will lose a dropship when you are a new pilot. Yes, the AV is strong enough to wipe the floor of newer ones in a single go.
But lets back up a second, yes?
Do newer pilot have a sense of builds? You should prioritize survival over raw power. Why you ask? Well, with the current state of AV, you need to. Afterburners, resistance modules both active and passive, and more can save your ship from instant popping. Also, certain instances are just bad to fly.
What to do? Recall your ship. Swallow your pride and fill a different role. I have flown for a long time and yes I love to fly but I realize that if the AV exceeds a certain level, I am no longer truly useful. So I recall, bring in a tank right for the situation (Was the enemy a rail tank? Bring in a rail myself. Was the enemy fielding a blob of infantry? Blaster/LLAV) and I go from there. One problem I see with many pilots are how inflexible they are.
Do I think the current state of Dropships is perfect? No. It definitely needs work. More WP from different sources which Dropships excel at, i.e. WP for spawn in, WP for kill had from someone dropping, etc, tweaks on the physics from weapons that nearly roll us but do no damage (looking at you flaylocks/mass drivers). I won't give up on the role and I will continue to fight to prove our viability on the battlefield.
Tip: Caldari beats Gallente in Air-to-Air but Gallente better at surviving Ground-to-Air Anti-Vehicle weaponry (even the rockets). |
