...and now I feel... upset.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzVjggarRns
I started playing DUST this year for a mere coincidence, I just downloaded with a couple friends and we tried it together. They didn't like it, I'm the only one still playing it.
But after watching these trailers I... I'm just amazed. The graphics, the special effects and the sounds were... simply awesome. 15 minutes ago I turned on my PS3 and played one match... and I wish I hadn't.
I won't play DUST anymore until the feel I got from these trailers starts to get foggy and slowly slides out of my mind. It's too vivid right now and it makes the current game seem like a... I don't know... a 2005/2006 game? I really don't know how that's possible. The trailer is so... infinitely better than the game...
I hope I will be back on the battlefield in 2 or 3 days.
See you guys soon. |

Someone probably thought DUST should be a game with battles that could last days or weeks. Then some executive probably said "We want to have a bigger presence in the e-sports field, it's what all the cool kids are doing! RAWR!" and it got scrapped, because short 15-20 minute matches are e-sports compatible.
There's only one tiny problem. We're not playing DUST for the e-sports. In fact, DUST doesn't have a presence in e-sports.

Even if they just added the scrolling planetary information that you see at the start of the E3 trailer to the beginning of each game, immersion would skyrocket.
Then dropships which passengers can actually see out of. Wow. Not to mention the audible breathing in that dead silence at the beginning. We should hear that only when we've got headphones on and we're walking in those areas where there is no other noise at all (except maybe ambient music, that's nice). Should be annoying for snipers because they keep hearing their own breathing.
And that huge bridge which is basically the map? That's cool. We need that too.
Sound being distorted when explosions go off nearby? Perfect for making MD and flaylock users think twice about close-range encounters. It would be confusing as hell to disorientate yourself. The enemy would be disorientated too, but to be honest I've seen people walk back and forth when hit by MDs. At least this way, people know for sure they're getting bombed. Also, have it mute out voice chat? ermahgerd, emmerrshun! Although since voice chat happens separately from the game, guess that won't work.
And when everything freezes with the voiceover, and the stats for a variety of items come up. We need that on our HUDs, not a bit of text, barely visible, at the bottom of our screens.

Lol. Welcome to CCP. They always promise big and deliver only a fraction of what they present. Not to mention EVE will never allow for that kind of planet/space interaction. By design EVE just doesn't promote simple fleeting. Only big alliances will ever have a stake in such complex space/planetary battles. CCP sidelines the majority of its player base. |

Hardly that a load of rubish. Ccp provide the tool fot epic. Just most people are too lazy to do it. But I agree with the op. But I think it was some executive overrideing the wishes of company (I mean general staff) if look at dusts development it's very bi-poler it seems the grunts want big epic battles and some higher up the food chain wants e-sports. Just pick a freaking direction and stick with it |

I think we're all here looking for the game from that trailer and all the Future Visions they've released every year since then, and that's why I personally won't stop playing.

Oh man! I watched that first video and at the end I had goosebumps and I teared up a little bit from the epic scope and design of the game. I want to play that, when does it come out?
Seriously though, I do quite enjoy the game in its present state, but looking at the videos compared to current gameplay, its hard to not have a look of consternation on one's face.
I guess I could try to compare it to loving a well made casserole that has some large chunky ingredients in it that I don't care to eat, so I eat around them to try to enjoy the rest of the dish. We all know what those large chunky ingredients are, to some degree or another, they're all over the forums. The best part is that this is a big casserole and I am able to share it with my corp mates and there is comradery developed eating around the large chunky bits.
I don't really eat food like this, just trying some analogy.

Easy there. Those that are high up there in MLG are there for a reason. My Old Clan participated in MLG years ago. And these guys.. well they can destroy you in game, just by looking at you.
Now If it's PVP that really has you riled up, well then sucks I know, but PVE should have been added since start.

I just can't see the competitive scene supporting the SP system of the longer you pay and play, the better you are.
In E Sports it's all about having a level playing field and letting nothing but skill, teamwork, and tactics decide the outcome. At least, that's how it should be.
Without having set SP limits and equipment in true competitive matches, you'll never actually achieve that, and people will always assume that X player won because he's a no lifer with money who plays all the time and won thanks to SP. We'll see how it all plays out, but without a system like that, don't expect to see DUST anywhere that's taken seriously in the competitive world. |

CCP has a hard on for e-sports; they've been trying to get EVE into the limelight, with the EVE alliance tournament for years.
Thing is EVE isn't exactly a universe known for its fairness, which makes for rather poor sport; the lack of imposed rules make organized tournaments difficult, and so the player run tournaments (for example the Syndicate Competitive League) are often held on the test server, where losses don't matter.
Cue DUST 514; a lobby shooter that can be built from the ground up to encourage "fair competitive play".
DUST is incredibly tame when it comes to meta-gaming and fair games compared to EVE. Yeah, it's not all fair, but it's also not the wild west where anything goes. You can't bring 30 guys to stomp the 16 guys defending a district; and you certainly can't spam 16 HAVs to get the job done.
Uneven battles has been a staple of New Eden for 10 years. It's as much part of its DNA as Caldari being capitalist arseholes.
