I grew up in the age of using the Nanite Injector by actually selecting the module and stabbing the downed guy on the ground. The game has since then been remodeled and now all I have to do is hit the "O" button and my needle will auto select and the once-dead soldier will be revived and back in battle. I have since adapted to this and now only use that "O" button as it saves time.
Here is where my problem lies. Once I stab the guy on the ground, I immediatly switch to my repair tool. Once I switch, the game will auto switch me back to the item I was previously using at the time just before I revived the dead guy. This auto switch to the previous weapon is killing me in situations. When I switch to the repair tool to heal the armor of my patient, the game will auto select my previous item, my mass driver, and proceed to do my next action, which is to attack/click/repair and fire at the back of my friendly and thus kill me in the process as a suicide.
I'm really tired of this auto switch option. If I manually switch my weapon/tool then I want it to stay and not switch again! I know what I want, I'm the player.
How many of the rest of you are having this problem with the auto switch? Is there anyone else that wants to see this improved upon and changed/fixed? |

I like to switch to my rep tool before hitting O to revive my fallen comrade. Immediately upon revival, it switches me back to my needle. Why do I want my needle equipped?! I just "quick revived" the merc to save time and not have to select my needle. Sometimes it switches me to my gun but most the time it switches me to my needle. Go figure. |

I didn't even know this feature existed until you said something. It's random swapping is very annoying. I'll stick to the old fashioned way until/if something is done. |

This becomes more glaring of an issue issue the more people lately rely on my trusty needle.
User input should just override the auto switch function and we should be able to select the equipment during the revive animation so it switches with the least possible delay.
On a related note: Pressing the fire button during the switching animation to the rep tool should make it automatically activate as soon as the animation finishes.
Currently i have to wait for the animation to finish properly or my button press will not activate the tool. This is wasted time and highly inconvenient when under pressure. |

I want something different than the equipment wheel. There has been times, that I would try to change equipment fast enough that it won't change, it will be easier for me and some other to be able to hold R2 and press Triangle, Square, Circle, Cross (X) rather than use the right stick to choose the equipment. |

A LOT. Them's some very precious seconds that I have to rezz and rep before reds swarm in and what not. Rezz, rep, run, return fire. It turns into: Rezz, rep with my MD?-fiddle with stupid rotating dial, rep some, get caught unawares by reds, die. |

Oh my this is an excellent idea! That would make equipment selection so easy, maybe they can make it switch as fast as switchin guns is now. Love that idea tho for real.

I'm not sure I get this, or maybe I've just been lucky.
I will equip rep tool as I approach a downed teammate, then use O to revive them, the game then switches me back to my rep tool once the needle is away, I rep away then tap R2 to return to my weapon (Cal so no sidearm).
To my memory this works every time!

It always switches me back the injector after a rez. My work around is a 2 beat pause, then swap to repair tool. If I do it to quick, I swap to the repair tool, then it automatically swaps to the injector, most frustrating. |

Weird, it literally never puts me back with the needle in hand after a res (I always use O, never select the needle manually).
Oh great, inconsistent behaviour, that'll be easy to fix then...

Because the auto switch works fine if you don't try to manually switch to another equipment/gun during or just after the stabbing animation. That's where the shenanigans happen.

I wanted to see if it was a problem globally first. I'll be migrating the ideas/solutions (listed above) with this post into the bugs section. |

If I quick revive using circle and press the fire button to inject, then it typically stays with the needle without auto-switching. If I don't touch the fire button and only use circle, then it will auto-switch back to the previous weapon. I always switch to my repper prior to injecting someone so I can get a lock right after the revive and before he/she scampers away to die again. |

I am using ADV needle, but I do usually rep straight after, but I don't manually select my repper after the revive, I do it before, so the auto-switch after the revive puts me back with the repper in hand.
So that's why it works fine for me I guess, i.e. I don't do a manual swithc shortly after the revive. So perhaps guys try selecting the repper manually BEFORE the revive and see how that works for you.

Moving this to Technical Support/Bugs section.
It can also be helpful if you can record footage of you using the quick revive, swapping to the repair tool and then have it swap back to your original item, then post it in this thread. As requested.........you can see that I try and switch back to my weapon since it takes so long for the injector. AFter switching the game will auto switch me back to injector.

After doing a little more "research" on the matter i noticed that the "auto switch" behavior amounts to:
At point x after the stab initiate a switch to whatever has been last switched from before x. x is a preset delay after begin of the stabbing animation (probably around two to three seconds to account for the animation).
This can cause wholly counterintuitive and unproductive behavior as switching to a piece of eq just after revive (and before x) makes the needle the thing that has been last switched from before x.
Without manual switch:
- Current gear in hand AR (example).
- Press O.
- Autoswitch to needle. Current gear in hand: Needle. Former gear in hand: AR.
- Stabbing animation.
- No manual switching occurs before x.
- Autoswitch at x to former gear in hand (here AR).
- All fine.
When not attempting a manual switch, the former gear in hand is always whatever you had in hand before the needle. In this case the result matches with user expectation.
Now with manual switch:
- Current gear in hand AR (example)
- Press O
- Autoswitch to needle. Current gear in hand: Needle. Former gear in hand: AR
- Stabbing animation.
- Quickly manual switch to rep tool before x. Current gear in hand: rep tool. Former gear in hand: Needle.
- Autoswitch at x to former gear in hand (here Needle).
- Needle in hand instead of rep tool => bad.
When attempting a manual switch before x is reached, the former gear in hand is always the needle. In this case the result does not match with user expectation and leaves you with the wrong gear in hand.
Workaround for end users:
Select the preferred module before attempting to revive. Do not attempt a manual switch before x. This will get you the preferred module after autoswitch.
Possible backend solution:
- A new variable has to be defined with the value 0. Let's call it z=0.
- Starting the revive animation first sets z=0.
- Manual switching sets z=1.
- Autoswitch initiates if z=0. Is bypassed if z>0
This makes manual switching before autoswitch always bypass the autoswitch function and makes it behave in accordance to user expectation (manual always overrides auto). |
