Ok just a thought that may help balance some of the OP weapons and stop the spam.
Why not make ammo a paid for item. We pay for the guns, each grenade or explosive, dropsuits and vehicles.... why not the ammo.
When it comes to militia stuff, standard arms etc it doesnt have to be very expensive or anything but when it comes to fancy proto weapons such as the famous core flaylock i think i may have seen 1 or 2 threads about (PER DAY) they should have expensive rounds... I mean im sure it would be rather expensive to make a compact bullet sized explosive missile that shoots from a pistol..... Rather then just nerf it into oblivion (though maybe a bit of reduction in splash radius as it is a small explosive) make it cost to spam..... Make other weapons that would use an expensive round or charge cell, or specialized rounds for a sniper or even AR more expensive then standard stuff.. That way new players wouldnt be SUPER broke and vets would have something to spend their vast fortune on.
Im not saying how to set it all up, or how it would work so dont go off the deep end (plus i need alot more sleep) but i think its food for thought and might help with spamming
I dont know what to do about nanos or supply depots either, maybe it would reduce the isk you get per match if your constantly reloading and spamming nades and missiles and super rounds. Could be that you can only reload at a supply depot the amount that you have in your own supplies (should go for grenades too, right now i think if you reload at the supply depot it doesnt affect your numbers)
What do you guys think? |

Well, I'd like it because you only have to buy a crystal for Amarr weapons and never have to reload. |

No, Ammo would be supplied for free just like it is today.
Soldiers don't buy ammo during a war.
Besides it would have to be so cheap it just wouldn't be worth it to even bother. |

Well like i said maybe even depots only give you ammo if you have it in your own stock. Same for grenades. Right now you could only own 2 grenades, but throw unlimited when next to a supply depot. Make it so you cannot restock unless you own more grenades (or ammo).
Also if weapons take crystals or whatever make them deplete or degenerate and have to buy more with a balanced isk cost to other race ammo's
Just trying to introduce something that doesnt just cause a nerf but may help with over spamming things which are a constant topic in the forums. |

Besides it would have to be so cheap it just wouldn't be worth it to even bother. We'll we're not really soldiers, we're mercenaries. Mercenaries bring their own ammo. That said, I think making ammo an asset would be too much to manage and create too many complications with nanohives and supply depots which could be easily avoided if we just maintain our current system.
Plus this would not achieve it's intended goal of balancing weapons like the core flaylock pistol. You cannot use ISK to as a balancing counterweight. The core flaylock pistol would still be abused by the rich, which there are many of in Dust.

I am paying enough already. The amount of ammo you go through would be costly. Suits cost enough. Why try to bankrupt everyone. I had to send ISK's to a guy in our squad so he could replenish his suit. BAD idea |

good points and things i have thought about during the day. I wouldnt want to bankrupt people, and dont want a bunch of overnerfed hammers dropping..... Perhaps some ideas will come up that actually work without any drawbacks until then ill keep trying to come up with better ideas.

What do you guys think? I mean, some types of ammo in EVE are only a few hundred ISK per round. If you were to implement cost for ammo in Dust, it would probably be so cheap that it wouldn't make a difference anyway, which is probably why it currently isn't a factor. |

As a balance mechanic, i think thats completely the wrong approach. People throw proto suits at noobs in public matches, i think a few thousand extra isk for ammo wouldn't even be noticed.
I would like to see ammo variants down the road, and when we get there, we will have a reason to make ammo a finite resource. But until we get that, i just don't see a reason for it.

How about this idea instead, that we buy specialized ammo packs for the guns, that give perks minuses, such as one would be a range mod, that would increase the effective distance of the weapon but lower the damage of the weapon. This way you could have various things going on with the ammo, you could buy the specialized ammo as a way of modifying your gun. However, if you do not want to use these packs your get the free bullets like we have always had.
The ammo packs would not be by how much ammo are in them or anything like that, it would be the ammo pack would last until you died, because it was attached to your gun, this would just be optional, the ammo should not be game changers. But a varient of the ammo pack for like the heavy could be for the heavy machine gun, give the gun a +5% against clones, but give a minus 15% against vehicles. I'm just throwing around numbers right now, but that seems like something that would be reasonable. |

I like his idea. So +1. Especially for vehicles.
But if I'm going to pay for ammo, I would like to pay for ammo with different effects. Flux Rounds (anti-shield ammo), and Explosive Rounds (anti-armor ammo) for slight adjustments to your weapon's damage profile. Tracking Rounds (similar to Active Scanner) to keep a target painted even at sniper range. Or Scanner Rounds that can be fired into an area, and light up red chevrons on everyone within a certain radius.
The same can be applied to AV weapons. Swarms for instance can have their delivered payload modified. High damage missiles don't track as well, but can blow up anything. Missiles with a low payload don't cause too much damage, but are unavoidable, and fly faster.
ALL of these options for a price.... seems fair to me.

Ammo is apart of the initial ISK cost i assume. You buy an assault rilfe for 12,000 ISK and it comes loaded. |
