This will **** the PS2 fanboys off but Dust 514 numbers are pretty close to PS2's numbers. Dust 514 is still being born while PS2 is dieing off.
So planetside has been out for 10 months, most are bored with it. Also planetside still has pleanty of players to field hundreds of player battles. Just youtube search planetside 2 this week and see what is currently happening. Tons of Planetside 2 action on massive scales.
Numbers matter in dust because this is the first impression stage. Planetside 2 has made millions and won 19 game of the year awards. Waaaaay more players planetside to date than dust ever dreamed of. I dont see dust doing anything with 3500 player constant base. Not enough money you see. Also 11 game updates in 10 months=alot of new content for planetside.
Come at me bro, you are a failure supporting dust. PS4 PS2 will desolve dust. |

The only thing he is wrong on is the p2w part. There are grey areas there as well. Fused locus grenades and the veteran and elite pack LAVs. The rest is pretty spot on i have the vetrans pack lav and i can assure you that it pretty much sucks once the shield is gone and it dosnt take a lot (few grenades or two good swarms) and your dead and not to mention the fact that you get blaster sniped out of them all the time
Doesn't change the fact that it has double the shield regen of the ISK saga.

its summer every game sees a massive a drop as people go holiday, and people in england, start praying to strange yellow thing in the sky, that only shows up for a like a week.
at the moment london is cooking in silly temps so i would past a few people not turning on the ps3s out of fear of overheating them.
so yeh summer always = player drop this is why you NEVER see a AAA game release during this time of year, unless the publisher is doing out of worry no one will pick up in the shooter session that starts sep-nov time. |

Of course it has a larger player base, it's a much larger franchise. Also, you're quoting this figure in isolation. Just a month ago BF3 had 10k more players...clearly it's dying, right? LINK |

It's summer. Some people like to be outside, you know? You can't DUST514 outside, sun messes with your vision and rain messes with your hardware. I'll for one will not even be AFKing next month, going off the grid. I'm not the only one. It's called "a life". Sorry for the inconvenience.
But yeah, this is not the main reason.
Let's be honest: this game does not have a lot of variety. You can only get stomped by organized protobears so many times on so many maps before it's not fun anymore. I've been running completely BPO scout+smg fits for last few days, I'm so bored. Honestly I came to think that it's a good day in DUST514 when you don't get spawned on top of the hole in the MCC, but rather in the correct corner. So you can just press triangle and AFK in peace, instead of falling down and worrying about getting back up. I wear scout to just die in such case, so I could respawn quickly in the safe place of the MCC. This is how boring DUST514 is currently. Who would want to start from scratch in a game that offers only butt pain and uphill battle in every way to newbs? Not your average PS3 owner, it seems.
If Omega boosters hit the market again I will logon once every few weeks to see how much SP I've got. And maybe after each new build to see if anything changed for the better. Other than that forums are currently more fun than the game itself. At which I first LOL'd and then I teared a little.
I will only miss my battlefield friends. And ICD-9 'Toxin' SMG, because I love this little thing. |

LINKLastly, due to the way CCP develops games, it's normally not comparable to other games in that you see a massive initial push and then slowly dwindling numbers. Look at EVE for example. When I started out and it hit 10k players for the first time I thought OMFG, WOW! We're now at 40k+ and it's one of few (if not the only) games that show growth year after year. That's because CCP tends to continually improve the game while adding real stuff while other game studios release a polished game and then hardly add anything really new to it. WOW comes to mind...or Anarchy Online.
Go play in traffic fan boy.
You can justify it however you need. Bf has not seen an add on in six months and has 20x the player count.
Triple sp couldn't get above 6k.
Bf has more players because it is a better game. Why can't you just admit that?

Its good dust is losing support, CCP is going to have to take a good hard look at how they managed the project and hopefully a few heads will roll at CCP.
This game has been in Dev since 2005 If thats not proof of poor management i dont know what is. You could have paid a capable studio to produce this game and gotten a far superior product.
The engine switching and constant development hell that CCP has put this game through mirrors some of the worst games and failed projects in gaming history. Right up there with duck nukem forever.
We will only end up seeing what went wrong sadly when CCP sacks the whole project.
Just look at CCPs job board http://www.ccpgames.com/en/jobs
Look at all the critical positions that are available for China. I have been watching that board for quite some time, and there has been some significant turn around. I wish i had taken pics of the other jobs that where posted throughout this year.
The project is practically in free fall IMHO not that CCP would ever admit that.
I'm pretty sure BLAM! has moved on from CCP and that is why we have not heard from him.
It took CCP 8 years to get the game to this point. 8 years of Development on 2 different engines muddling about. Can you guess based on that where DUST is gonna be in another 8 if it took them this long to get to here? |

Again: BF is a MUCH larger franchise that has been around for MUCH longer...so obviously it will have a larger player base. But even BF saw its player number drop over the past month...BECAUSE IT'S SUMMER.
Stats I linked CLEARLY prove that.

I remember when we had 10k, and heard fanbois say "when release hits we should have closer to 100k". What the hell happened? Where are all the fps players at? This is free 2 play right? Are people insulted by the constant Buy this and purchase aurum marketing strategies? Do people feel left behind after CCP chose to NOT reset beta players upon Commercial release? Or is it the actual gameplay and community that is turning new players away? Someone clue me in, WHERE IS EVERYONE AT!!! Here are the sad declining numbers....... Eve Server Numbers
May 14th was the end of Dust every single review was horrible execpt the playstion one. The player reviews was horrible. Game launched with little to no content from the beta.
The game is a grind no respec option, same boring maps. No massive battles just 16 vs 16. Core gaming mechanics are broken. Icould go on and on.
Only the beta vets and Eve player will keep this game going. The game design is very flawed the concept is horrible no persistence just a lobby shooter, with no connection to Eve.
The numbers will continue to shrink Dust is just a bad FPS that happens to be free. With the PS4 and games like GTA V Dust will have around 2,500 hardcore players.
I also expect the Mag community to leave Dust pretty soon. The demo from 2009 is not the game we currently have. We can't even mod our weapons lol. |

Numbers don't matter nearly as much for a F2P like many other games.
They have made, from what I hear, $20M on the game thus far. As long as AUR is bought in sufficient amounts the game will be around. Plus, I doubt if CCP is horribly burdened by DUST financially. They have the long view, just look at the slow change rate for Ganker's Paradise (EVE). DUST is changing at a much faster rate.
New players will download the game, some percentage will buy AUR, many will buy Packs from the PlayStation Store. Those AUR items are good enough to keep many paying for them.
An evening burning down AUR items is cheaper than a night at the bar. And while DUST is often boring, your friends aren't. |

Any good that is superiour to what you can buy with in game currency is called a supremacy good.
Supremacy goods are p2w.
Since the shield regen is better on the pack Sagas, they are supremacy goods, and therefore p2w.
You can try and explain it away, but that is a cold hard fact.
Hell, they have better shield regen than the HAV's ffs.
Your argument was bad, and it has been clearly shown to be incorrect. Either admit you were wrong or shut up if you don't want to look like a 'tard.

I would love to see the source for them making 20m off of this. I find that number to be highly unlikely, and I doubt you have a better source than "some guy told me".
Dust is changing at a faster rate because they got savaged on the reviews and if they don't do something quick, a lot of the people who have spent a boatload on this will finally wake up and either stop buying, or just stop playing.
