I am a fan of the Caldari and plan on only using Caldari technology in Dust 514, at least as far as dropsuits, weapons, and vehicles go. However at the moment we don't have much in the way of weapons. I've been running around mostly in militia fits because I'm not that big into sniping and there never seems like enough vehicles on the battlefield to warrant a dedicated swarm launcher.
However I've recently started using the sniper rifle mid-range. By that I mean using it in the situations you would using use an assault rifle. No standing still and crouching, I will zoom in while strafing and counter the sway to hit my shots. Surprisingly I have been pretty successful with this method, to the point that I'm considering skilling into the Caldari sniper rifles if not just for the sway reduction. My question is has anybody else tried going this route, and what are your experiences towards the higher levels? |

yes bro this method is very effective but its all about playstyle =D get the skills they are a big help youll notice a difference after lvl 2 Operation and it really works as long as you catch the enemy off guard

I tried something similar near the end of beta. However, I went with a scout and always lurked just outside of AR range (I did crouch and stand still, though). It was far more effective than sitting on the same hill all battle. |

I also am playing that sort of playstyle....Mixing things up with long range, then coming down from the hills and supporting up close around objective points with some hacking here and there...I still have the bad habit of after I am strafing and the enemy is in his reload phase, I would quickly crouch and track with scope...I don't have a side-arm fitted, and so, everything I do is with the sniper gun...This game isn't really "quickscope" friendly and so I use third party trainers to help muscle memory in tracking quickly with the scope.....
Few things that are obvious is that if you wanna get up close;
- The Medium Suites fits this style....Plz don't go Light Suits, its tanking ability is just a waste of time - Tactical Sniper Rifle for its ROF is a must up close.....Charged Sniper Rifle is a waste of time - Sniper Rifle Operation Lvl 5 is must just because... - Skill heavy into weapon mods, sniper proficiency, get the damages first then into armor upgrades, shield upgrades, core upgrades
anyone wanna talk Sniper tricks/tips/strats/campspots/ etc.

This sounds like a lot of fun... and a fast way to die... What would be a decent cost for a mid-range sniper fit? 20,000? And what's this about third party trainers for muscle memory? Please, Sensei, teach me more. |

Pair it with a tier 4 smg, kincat, and extender...for when you miss that fifth shot at midrange. |

Thanks, sounds like this could be somewhat viable (at least for fun in instant battles to change things up). I only hope that I don't skill into this only to find the rail gun coming out in 1.3. |

I second using the TAC AR for mid range work. It has a big buff over the regular AR for damage and a more reasonable range. However, if you enjoy this kind of tactic at the more extreme end with the sniper rifle, I salute you. One thing I'd say is that for a sidearm you may want to roll with a pistol if you don't already, as the range is better than the SMG and if you are staying in mid-range it may be more appropriate.
But, before you skill up too heavily for this playstyle you may want to consider some of the new weapons (no word on when they will be here unfortunately )
There are 3 more rifles coming which may be even a better fit than the sniper rifle:
