When the complex shield regulator was a lvl 4 item, it was fine. Now that it's a lvl 5 it seems a bit underpowered. I say this for two reasons. Number one the margins on the complex are half the bonus for same CPU/PG. The margins on each are as follows: Basic: +10%, CPU + 11, PG + 1 Enhanced: +10%, CPU + 13, PG + 1 Complex: +5%, CPU + 11, PG + 1
Second is the SP cost. The SP to go from lvl 3 - 5 is ROUGHLY 700,000. IMO 700,000 SP for a 5% boost at the same marginal cost of an enhanced doesn't seem like it would be beneficial to go to lvl 5 regulation.
If you look at the recharger rates: 15, 25, 42 you don't see diminishing returns. Same with the extenders: 22, 33, 66 And the repairers: 2, 3, 5
I propose a new regulator that does 30-35% with CPU/PG ~ 42/4-46/5 to make that 700,000 SP feel like it does something. |

@Sponk Sponk Sponk: I realize the 5% boost reduces delay by .2-.7 seconds which of course is helpful, but my problem is the amount of SP you need to invest as well as the diminishing return you don't see in other modules. I feel like your response has an overly optimistic point. If complex armor plates gave 92 HP you could argue "well you're getting an extra 5 HP don't complain." A look at the data again: ~18,000 SP for 1 sec reduction ~200,000 SP for 2 sec reduction ~700,000 SP for 2.5 sec reduction
That little extra you receive for 700,000 SP is useless imo.
@Niuvo: Yes regulators work properly, try an advanced one and you'll notice a huge difference. Try the complex... not so much and that's exactly my point of this thread. |

Quote:I just want to mention that it's important to note the efficacy bonus the skill gives you. If you take the bonus into effect then an enhanced regulator will yield -21.2% reduction at level 3 while the complex regulator is -27.5% at level 5. The enhanced would be -22% at level 5.
In short, the skill is DEFINITELY worth training as each complex regulator is actually closer to 30% and is in no way underpowered. I certainly felt the change going from enhanced to complex, so your complaints just seem to be related to you not wanting to make the SP investment and not related to the actual efficiency of the regulators. The standard model in this game is lvl 1 basic, lvl 3 advanced, and lvl 5 complex so I see no reason why shield regulators should be excluded from that.
I am aware of the bonuses per level. But most modules gain an efficacy bonus per level. The rechargers go 15, 25, 42. So why would rechargers get a 17% boost between enhanced and complex even though there's the passive bonus. Same for armor repair: 2, 3, 5; shield extenders: 22, 33, 66 both with efficacy bonuses.
We're all aware it goes lvl 1, 3, 5 but imo CCP designed the regulators to fit a 1,3,4.
Bottom line: why is the shield regulator the only module that experiences diminishing returns? |
